Comedian, writer, actor, director Wyatt Cenac latest project in his superhero commentary on gentrification aka Wyatt Cenac. Coming together with First Look Media’s Topic.com the six part series features Wyatt as “a regular, low-key New York City guy who moonlights as a vigilante superhero called “The Viceroy,” protecting gentrified Brooklyn.” The recently launched Topic.com has already made a name for itself as a home to Cirocco Dunlap’s digital series Everything is Okay, the animated series of shorts Goreytelling, featuring unpublished audio recordings of artist/designer Edward Gorey among a growing collection of short narrative and documentary films.
The six-part series, aka Wyatt Cenac, provides a contemporary view driven by Wyatt’s own brand of comedy. An Emmy-winning writer and correspondent on “The Daily Show” from 2008 to 2012, the performer, producer, stand-up comedian illustrates the subtle similarities between the facade of a stand-up comedian and a superhero using the story of “The Viceroy” as a bookend to talk about common everyday life.
“Resigned to the fact that Hollywood and the comic book community at large would probably never let me live out my childhood dream of starring in a Batman movie, I am grateful that Topic were supportive enough to let me create my own costumed vigilante for the big screen of an iPhone…or whatever other device you own that is slowly killing the television,” – Wyatt Cenac.
The entire six-part series will be released on Topic.com on Monday, October 3rd, 2017, streaming for free.
