In this issue Rucka gives us a confrontation of wills involving Cormac and Veil as she fights to maintain control. It’s a very intense battle between the two that is played out well and moves us to the next stage of the story. It also makes you really dislike Cormac even more as he attempts to overpower and control Veil. On the other hand, Dante is shaping up to be more of the hero as he seems to be the only man who has a genuine desire to help Veil. He’s a character that seems to walk in the grey area, but Rucka shows that in his heart he’s about doing the right thing for the right reason.
Toni Fejzula continues to deliver some intense and stunning visuals page after page. The conflict between Veil and Cormac is a very strong sequence as we see Veil’s subtle transformation over the course of the fight. The same goes for Dante’s talk with the possessed Gabriel, which is both a little humorous and creepy the longer it goes on. The bow that ties it all together is the colors by Aliosa Tomic that help establish the horror element of the book and keep you enjoying the panels.
It’s anyone’s guess how the final issue will play out as Dante goes to confront Cormac. Let’s just hope that the ending is just as good as what’s come before it. However, as good as this issue is, it’s not a jumping on point and is best enjoyed from the beginning. Veil continues to impresses both visually and with its story to the point that you can’t help but be engrossed with this visceral cast of characters.
