Bloodshot #3
Publisher: Valiant
Writer: Duane Swierczynski
Art: Manuel Garcia with Arturo Lozzi
Hands down, Bloodshot is the most bad ass comic book published in the market today. If you disagree with me, I’ll knife fight you myself. Great plot, great writing, great art, and lots of violence to boot.
Issue #3 of Bloodshot, which just hit shops this week, follows Bloodshot as he is on a road to hell to find out the truth behind him and the fake memories which Project Rising Spirit has pumped into his head. He has taken the female Ambulance-EMT who was trying to save him last issue pretty much hostage, and goes to the address of “his wife” from his memory bank, in an attempt to get more answers. It actually leads to more questions, as she is much-much older than Bloodshot expected, and it unfolds (((((spoiler alert)))))) that Dr. Kuretich, the original programmer of Bloodshot, who freed him from this chain of false memories in Afghanistan first issue, based the “fake” people off real life people he use to know in high school. Before more can be figured out, one of Bloodshot’s nantech-visions appear to him and warns him of an approaching danger: the government is sending Pulse after him. Pulse appears to be a normal female, but apparently she can unleash an electromagnetic blast, one which would render the nanites that resurrect Bloodshot useless. This leads to a high speed chase, where the results turn out to be….
The work on this title, as on all the Valiant reboots, is just top notch. Swierczynski has written a well-paced issue that is dripping with action-filled entertainment, while connecting all the pieces and unfolding the tale. On the art side of things, Garcia with Lozzi on this issue do a fantastic job, the chase sequence in the final pages of the book is especially exciting.
If it looks good and reads good, it must be good, right? I’m sure Valiant fans are already checking this out. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the universe, or not sure if you want to deal with another reboot, just go for it. This reviewer here is proof. I did not read Valiant comics growing up, and I’m pretty much gushing about this title here, as well as I have become smitten with the other three titles that Valiant puts out right now. You don’t need any prior knowledge, just get in and go here, which is awesome. Available now in both print and digital.
