Faith #4
Publisher: Valiant
Writer: Jody Houser
Artist(s): Pere Pérez & Marguerite Sauvage
Colorist: Andrew Dalhouse
Cover: Kevin Wanda
The latest issue of Faith has so many high points that I’m sure Houser had as much fun writing it as you will reading it. It’s the conclusion to Faith and Archer’s date at his first comic convention as some magic is being used for nefarious purposes which causes a double of Faith to be created. So instead of some boring and cliche tale of Faith vs Faith, Houser delivers a team up story that reveals the heart of a hero. Peppered within this story are also some of the best geek conversations around. Especially when the Faiths venture into Star Wars Extended Universe territory.
Moving things along visually are Pérez and Sauvage who once deliver a fantastic looking issue. Pérez’s panel arrangements are just as impressive as the art inside which helps intensify the narrative. Especially the page when the Faiths and Archer take off to stop Murder Mouse and his duplicates. Sauvage handles the fantasy sequences when Faith is weighing the pros and cons of having a double. These breaks in the action are perfect and a welcome shift in the mood without it interrupting the pacing.
Faith is another Valiant title that’s worth your time and money as the creative team continues to make each issue better than the last. We’re also still early enough in the series that if this is your first issue that’s fine. The recap gets you caught up and you’ll be up to speed and enjoying this issue in no time. So go ahead and pick this one up!
