The series Quantum and Woody returns after over a decade of not having a book at Valiant comics. Things have changed quite a bit in this new version of the series. What’s changed? Well I guess you’ll have to read to find out.
Siblings are usually not the easiest thing to have in life. You can luck out and have great ones or end up with people entirely different from you. Quantum and Woody is about two brothers who fall into the latter category. What happens when two brothers who fit the buddy-cop scenario of the straight-laced by-the-book brother, and the wildcard trickster brother have to deal with gaining superpowers? The new Quantum and Woody is going to show us.
I’m always excited at seeing stories where people are dealing with the new reality of super-powered people, and Quantum and Woody gives us a taste of such a world nearly from the start. That alone provides a lot of promise for the series if that just gets more hints as we return back to the present day versions of these two. I mention the present since most of this issue is a flashback to present the origins of Quantum and Woody.
The story has interesting characters in Eric Henderson, military-trained and adamant do-gooder (or at least he tries to be), and Woody Henderson, charming con-man with plenty of people wanting him for money owed. The buddy-cop gimmick is a favorite of mine, and this twist makes it even better. The fact that the leads are brothers adds to the humor of their fights since they certainly act like they are siblings.
The art in this is top notch, everything looks and feels dynamic, and it feels like watching a show, again adding to that buddy-cop vibe. I will definitely be picking this book up as it progresses. You should, too, if you are a fan of buddy-cops, superheroes, brothers, action, and comedy. This is a series worth picking up.
