Marvel announced today that a new Spider-Man animated series based off of Brian Michael Bendis’s Ultimate Spider-Man is coming to Disney XD in the fall next year.
“Ultimate Spider-Man will be a unique journey exploring our favorite web-slinger as he teams up with other fan favorite Marvel Super Heroes in never before seen stories with a new life filled with great challenges, new friends, intense action and character growth,” said Eric S. Rollman, President of Marvel Animation.
The new series will chronicle the adventures of naive high-schooler Peter Parker as he comes to grips with his new powers.
Along with his new abilities, the challenge for the young web-slinger in the new series is balancing his relationships with his friends and family, and his super colleagues who can help him gain an understanding of his parent’s legacy and his own destiny.
This seems strange to me since The Spectacular Spider-Man, already presumably based off of Ultimate Spider-Man, still airs on Disney XD, and has seen great success.
Back in March, Marvel announced a new Avengers series, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, also coming to Disney XD.
So what do you think? Are you looking forward to a new Spider-Man cartoon about the struggles of an adolescent Peter Parker, or can you do without another Spider-Man show?

It’s not based on the new Ultimate Spider-Man?
It’s a setup for the movie reboot. They want us comfortable with the new Spidey direction before they spring the feature film on us lol

If its anything like Spectacular, I’ll watch.
So…does this mean that Spectacular Spider-Man is being cancelled or are there going to be TWO Spider-Man cartoons on now? I don’t like that idea, but I know that my son would be pleased as punch! 🙂
Blah.
I want more Spectacular Spider-Man! That show was great!
@Aron
I’m curious about that too. Two Spidy shows seems silly, but as much money as Web Head makes, I wouldnt put it past anyone.
As long as Iceman makes an appearance, I’m cool with it.
Ditto Andy, Ditto, especially after all his great lines in the latest Ult. Spider-man issue
Haha. Maybe they should just reboot Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

Personally I think they should have continued the Spectacular Spider for a couple more seasons I mean most cartoon shows no matter what there based off of be it comics or older series getting a reboot seldom seem to last for more then two or three seasons. Which is a load considering some of them are very good and never get a real series finale or it gets one that doesn’t resolve anything like Justice League Unlimited. Where they hint at Lex Luthor and Darkside are still alive or the 90’s classic Spider-man the animated series where madame web says there going to find the real MJ but the never say whether or not they do because that’s how they end the series. The same thing happens in spectactular spiderman Norman Osborn is still alive and it leaves us asking does he ever come back? Does anything happen with harry becoming the next goblin or does this Gwen Stacy “buy the farm” like her Comic book counterpart. If they want to cancel a series they should resolve everything leaving nothing to the imagination. Only one or 2 series I know have done that or came close to it as for close but no cigar are Avatar and the Epilogue episode of JLU that ends Batman Beyond they only leave one question unresolved but there not major so it doesn’t really matter but in truth we’re not angry just because a question is unanswered we’re mad because a character or characters we’ve come to love go away without achieving much as hero’s as with the case with comic based series or they end there journey and we feel there should be more for them to do. The only series I’ve ever seen where nothing more needs to be said is Gundam Wing it covers everything and leaves us happy.
@ Aron and Andy yes Spectacular Spider-man was unfortunately canceled I know it sucks I thought it was a great show and I’m sad to see it go
Don’t u ppl read Ultimate spider-man comics? Of course they’re good, unless Disney doesn’t interfere and ruin it, so I’m really excited about this series coming out. Spectacular was good but Marvel can’t continue it cus it belong to Sony. I’m just glad there’s going to be another Spider-man animation.
