Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time #3
Publisher: IDW
Writer: Erik Burnham
Artist: Ben Bates
Cover: David Peterson
If you were hoping to find out why the Turtles have been tossed all about the time stream, it seems as if you’ll have to wait a bit longer for that explanation. Instead we get an adventure in the Caribbean Sea that’s filled with pirates and an all too familiar villain. Not only does Burnham write a thoroughly enjoyable story, he also lets Michelangelo play a pivotal role throughout. This was a surprise as we usually see Leo assume the leadership role, however, Burnham makes the transition both comical and meaningful at the same time.
Each artist on this series has brought something visually stunning to the reader, and Ben Bates is no different. We’re treated to some hyper kinetic action scenes, and he even uses more of the classic look of the Turtles. There’s also a large montage scene showing the Turtles adjusting to life on the sea that is just wonderful. Each sequence seems to just blend into the next one while not distracting or interrupting the narrative.
Unfortunately, there’s only one more issue left, but even if you haven’t read the first two issues (shame on you) this one is pretty safe to pick up. So for now enjoy yet another entertaining TMNT story that reinforces why it’s so great that IDW brought these characters back!
Till next time!
