The Occultist #3
Publisher: Dark Horse
Writer: Tim Seeley
Artist: Mike Norton
Cover: Steve Morris

We’re at the midway point of this story arc of The Occultist and boy are things ramping up. Rob Bailey is dealing with some Flatliners level dangers with some college astral projectors who aren’t what they seem. So how does this issue raise the stakes from that last issue development? Let’s find out.

Rob’s been neglecting his duties as the Occultist to a point where the Sword isn’t that pleased with him. Detective Melendez is searching for him and Imposter Charles is planning something that involves the astral projectors Rob is hanging with.

It’s nice to get Melendez back in doing some detective work cause it sure leads into some neat places involving possessions, monster fighting and communicating with the dead. This last part is what leads to a major problem we’re going to have to see everyone deal next. I am very excited for what is coming, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.

The art is still top notch, the stuff with the dead especially. Things look utterly terrifying as it should for what is being conveyed. You could rid the book of words in those parts and know the dread that is to come. I love the colors used for the astral projections. The designs for those dead people at the end, fantastic.

I could go on about this issue and how enjoyable it is but I fear I’ll spoil it. I’ll just say that if you like this series, then you’ll be getting more of the same great stuff. If you are new then you should be looking at the Occultist series if you like some creepy horror in your magical heroics.
