Just as its namesake is destined to rise from the ashes, once again Fox attempts to tell one of the most ground breaking stories in X-Men history in their latest film. The Phoenix Saga changed the game and the story’s effects have been felt throughout the X-Men’s comic history ever since the family of mutants were forced to fight Jean Grey as she succumbed to the power of the Phoenix Force.
So after getting a glimpse of the Phoenix in X-Men: Age of Apocalypse we’ll see a more powerful Jean Grey here. The trailer takes us through the evolution of Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) from a young child to one of the most powerful mutants on her way down a dark path. A path that seems to have been set in motion by the failed attempts of Professor X (James McAvoy) to help her. Reinforced by voiceovers from Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) which pull no punches in letting Charles know he’s made a tragic mistake. There’s appearances from Beast, Cyclops, and others as we watch events unfold.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be in theaters in February 14, 2019.
