It’s time to charge up those proton blasts and get ready to deliver shoryukens once again because some of our favorite characters are returning for a good fight! Announced at this year’s PlayStation Experience was Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite along with a trailer featuring Mega Man X and Ryu going up against Iron Man and Captain Marvel. The trailer not only shows of the two teams going at it in spectacular fighting fashion but they are wielding Infinity Stones much like in the classic Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems from 1996! This should give some hints as to how the gems will be utilized to those who played that game but of course it’s 2016 and I’m sure there’s some brand new things coming our way.
You might also notice some things about the gameplay trailer that make this newest outing a much different game than Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with a throwback to some of the classic gameplay. The teams are now back to 2v2, no assists, and what looks like more of a Street Fighter fighting mechanic.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be available some time next year and seems pretty timely with the Infinity Stones/Gems being a huge part of the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also a sure bet that we’ll be seeing MCU characters definitely make an appearance in the game so I’m already excited to see Black Panther and Winter Soldier go up against some of Capcom’s finest!
