The 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo came to a close yesterday in Los Angeles, California, and while announcements and demos about Xbox 360’s Kinect, the Playstation Move, and the Nintendo 3DS may have been the big news, us comic book fans just wanna know what’s up with the games about our favorite comic characters!
We’re looking at DC Universe Online, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and more, but there was one game that was strangely absent from the expo. Let’s get started!
DC Universe Online
All our hopes and dreams (or at least mine anyway) can now come true. We can now create our own superhero to fight crime alongside Superman, Flash, Batman, and more legendary defenders of justice in DC’s first step into an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game)!
Watch the E3 trailer here and a demo straight from the Sony Online Entertainment booth here! DCUO hits the PS3 and PC this November.
All I want is to be another one of Batman’s wayward teenage side kicks. Pleeeeease!
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
One of the greatest fighting game franchises of all time returns, and E3 offered us a great look at what’s to come of the game, and one character was at the center of all the attention: Deadpool (who else?)
Watch the E3 trailer featuring Deadpool vs. Dante (of Devil May Cry 3) here, watch G4’s demo of the game here, and watch Ryu, Dante, Chris Redfield vs. Hulk, Deadpool, and Captain America here (This one’s highly recommended)!
The game could not look any more perfect and it’s still a year away from hitting stores, which means it still has a year to become even better. I can’t wait!
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
Shattered Dimensions is the new annual Spider-Man game by Activision that features not just one, but four Spider-Men from the Marvel Universe. First announced was the Amazing Spider-Man (original 616 Spidey that we all know and love), Spider-Man Noir (of the recent Marvel title of the same name), Spider-Man 2099, and a fourth Spider-Man to be revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Watch the special E3 villains trailer here.
G4 sat down with the creative director of Shattered Dimensions for a first hand demo of the game. Watch it here! The game looks awesome! It slightly resembles gameplay from Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, but with four different Spider-Men it looks to be like four different Spider-Man games. Speaking of the four Spider-Men, who is your prediction for the fourth yet-to-be-named Spidey?
I’m just hoping it’s not Ultimate Spider-Man. That would feel like too much of a cop out. Personally, I wouldn’t mind Spider-Man from Spider-Man Unlimited. Remember that show? I loved it. I also think it would be cool if the fourth Web Head weren’t a Spider-MAN at all, but maybe Spider-Girl of the future. What do you guys think? Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is scheduled to release this September on all major systems.
Scott Pilgrim: The Video Game
With the movie not far away, Scott Pilgrim is getting the video game treatment, but not in the way that makes most comic fans cringe. Scott Pilgrim: The Video Game will be a downloadable game that kicks it old school 2D beat ’em up style. Watch the trailer here!
I’ve read the first few volumes of Scott Pilgrim and enjoyed them, but I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy the game a lot more! I love 2D beat ’em ups, and Scott Pilgrim really looks like it’s trying to capture that old school style of gaming. Scott Pilgrim: The Video Game hits Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in August.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
Darth Vader’s once apprentice, Starkiller, returns, and by the looks of things, business is about to pick up x2 with Starkiller now wielding dual lightsabers.
Personally, I was pretty disappointed with the first Force Unleashed game, but hopefully Lucas Arts can give us the game we should have gotten a long time ago. Watch the trailer here! Also, I wonder if Dark Horse will be publishing another graphic novel based on the story of the game. I hope they do. Even if the game was lacking, the story is still great. Force Unleashed II will hopefully hit stores this October.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
World of Warcraft look out, The Old Republic is coming, and it looks great! This Star Wars MMO is a lot of fan’s dream come true. Now you can actually escape your own world and go live in George Lucas’s. AND YOU GET YOUR OWN STARSHIP! Jedi or Sith? Empire or Republic? Whose side are you on?
Watch the trailer here and watch the E3 presentation for TOR here.
The Old Republic will be dropping sometime next year.
Batman Arkham Asylum 2
Surprisingly, there was little to no mention of this game. Batman Arkham Asylum was one of last year’s biggest and most successful games, honored with its own Game of the Year Edition, and we saw a teaser trailer for the sequel at Spike TV’s video game awards show (watch the teaser here), but we’ve heard next to nothing about the game since. Here’s hoping we get something at the San Diego Comic Con.
So that’s E3 for the comic book fan, and it looks like comic fans’ game consoles will be busy over the next year. Look to The Comics Console every Thursday for news, reviews, and discussion on all of these games and more!

Everything here looks GOOD! Can’t wait for the DC Online and MVC3!
Nice scans/screen shots dude.
By the way, if anyone is interested, I took notes (like meeting minutes, but with some snarkiness) of each of the major conferences (Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, and Sony), which you can read on my personal blog here: http://girlg33k.blogspot.com/
And that Old Republic game has a “Spring 2011” release, which probably means around April. Unless it’s delayed (which isn’t unlikely). I think I’m just going to pretend it won’t be out until August, that way I won’t be disappointed when it’s pushed back. 🙂
On the Spider-Man game…. I kind of think it will be Ultimate Spider-Man. Because of the cartoon that’s coming out. And the movies that are going back to a younger Peter. However, they may think that’s too close to Amazing, and it could be something else.
Spider-Ham!
