Matonti, Shaun Mclaughlin, & Andrew McDonald
Artist: Abdul H. Rashid
Cover: Alexander Cutri & Abdul H. Rashid

“New-Gen pt 1”: When two scientists discover and then perfect a new type of nanotechnology, you just know that one of them is bound to get a god complex and start to screw things up. That’s exactly what happens when Deadalus attempts to reshape the world no matter the cost and is confronted by his longtime friend/mentor Gabriel. Unknown to Gabriel, Deadalus had been conducting secret experiments to further his own type of research, and then set the nanobots loose on the population of New-Gen. The effects to New-Gen’s children are extreme to say the least, as it mutates them and gives them nanotech-based powers. This forces Gabriel to make a tough decision concerning his own life and the lives of others based on his belief in a prophecy and love for his family.

Ever since seeing Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, I get nervous when a story has a focus (even a small one) on saving little kids. With that said, I’ll admit that I enjoyed New-Gen more than expected and actually had fun while checking out the story. New-Gen mixes a lot of familiar elements that we’ve seen before throughout its pages, and despite one particular incident it’s done quite well. The story is engaging and entertaining while it lays the ground work for the future issues. The artwork by Abdul compliments the story and helps with the fun factor, though it seems that backgrounds are lacking in the Utopian society of New-Gen. The fight scene between Deadalus and Gabriel plays out nicely and shows that Gabriel has a few tricks up his sleeve. Though it is explained how Deadalus has his abilities, we are left in the dark about Gabriel’s powers.

New-Gen #2
Publisher: Marvel
Writer(s): J.D. Matonti, Shaun Mclaughlin, & Andrew McDonald
Artist: Abdul H. Rashid
Cover: Alexander Cutri & Abdul H. Rashid

“New-Gen pt 2”: Time has passed and Deadalus has escaped his prison into a different time with the help of the underground creatures he now controls. And with their help he begins an assault on the primitive people above ground in hopes of conquering them. Gabriel has been watching him all this time and decides of send the oldest of the A.P.N.G. to put a stop to the attack, and that’s when all hell breaks loose. Minotaur, or “Mini” for short, goes in and for a while he’s got the upper hand. However, the numbers game catches up to him and Gabriel is forced to send in reinforcements to make sure Mini doesn’t get killed by the vast number of creatures at Deadalus’s command.

Most of this issue is just one long fight with a few light moments thrown in to keep it from getting boring. Like when Gabriel realizes that Minotaur’s nanopowers are spiking on his first mission and he’s doing more damage to the natives’ town/homes than he is to the enemy. Now I’m going to assume that several years have passed, since Minotaur looks a lot older in this issue than he does on the cover of the first issue. We’re never given an exact window of time that has passed within the story, but Deadalus also has gone through a physical change as illustrated by Rashid. Again the artwork fits this type of story very well and it looks like something you would see on a Saturday morning cartoon. The change of location also helped with the visuals, since in the first issue the Utopian background of New-Gen was pretty bland.

Within this issue there were two things that were a bit off to me. The first was the scribe running around recording the events of Mini’s fight on a stone tablet because it would make a great story. Now if I’m not mistaken, paper was already invented during this time and seeing him trying to chisel the story was just silly if you ask me. Another thing was how Deadalus was trapped again in the end, because unless all of his creatures are destroyed then he’ll easily escape once again.

New-Gen is slated to become a television series, feature film, and video game, which explains the all-ages appeal of the story. Now, I don’t see anything wrong with that as long as the story given to the fans is worth it in the end. With three writers on the title, though, I would expect a bit more detail to help flesh some minor things out while adding a few more layers to the overall story. New-Gen also has the potential and story elements in place to be an exciting tale if it’s not watered down too much and made too little kid friendly. Too many times an “all ages” story really translates into “buy this for the little kids” and begins to only cater to that audience, forgetting the older crowd.

Overall, New-Gen is off to a good start with the first two issues, and let’s just hope that the Association for the Protection of New Generation (A.P.N.G.) continues to build on this and give the audience more in the coming issues.

Infinite Speech
infinitespeech@comicattack.net

New York Comic Con Pt 5: Comics, Art, & Good People!

InfiniteSpeech

Archaia Entertainment

Books

Comic Cons

Cosplay

Fantasy

GG Studio

Graphic Novels

Indie

Infinite Speech

New York Comic Con

News

Top Cow

Web Comics

Artifacts

Legends of the Mouse Guard

NYCC 2010

Thor

Are you just now taking a look at this week’s New York Comic Con recaps? Well, for the entire week we’ve been taking a stroll around the con floor and sharing in the misadventures of Comic Attack journalist Infinite Speech. Be sure to check out parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 so you can catch up!

During NYCC you can get so caught up in the visual spectacle and celebrity of the place that you forget to actually enjoy the people that you come in contact with. So I took some time out to just actually meet with some of the good people of the con and geek out for a bit. From random fans to the men and women that were running the various booths, there wasn’t one person who wasn’t ready to chat it up or have a few good laughs throughout the day. I also figured this would be a good chance for me to try to score some artwork and pick out a few hardcovers for my collection. Plus I would do anything to drown out the sounds of Michael Jackson’s Beat It and Billie Jean which had been blasting all day from the new video game coming out.

Since I was already next to the Archaia display, I figured now was as good a time as any to pick up a copy of the Mouse Guard vol 1 hardcover and see what all the hype was about. Plus David Peterson was signing and I’d be a fool to pass that up, right? I guess I had that “new guy” look on my face, because one of the fans immediately asked if I was new to Mouse Guard. After hearing my answer he quickly dove into telling me how much I’m going to enjoy the series, and then a few more fans jumped in to back up his statement and share why they like the series. Guess I really had been missing out on something good, huh? When I finally made it to Peterson he assured me I’d like the book as well, and after he signed it he even whipped up a mouse sketch! My great experience over at Archaia wasn’t over just yet, as I also spotted Okko: The Cycle of Water which I had planned on starting a while back. Does it get better? It sure as hell does! Okko: The Cycle of Earth was also on the shelf, and the good folks at Archaia had a buy 1 get 1 deal going on! So I was able to scoop up all of those books at a great price, and a big thanks to Mel who didn’t hold it against me that I know Andy!

Now anyone who knows me understands that I’m a big fan of several Top Cow titles, and it’s rare that I’d get a chance to see three of my favorite artists at one time. So after getting a water bottle from some random fan (thank you again whoever you are!), I made my way over. Immediately I see the Jell-O lovin’ Chrissy working her butt off to make sure things are goin’ smooth, and Magdalena taking pics with fans. Chrissy has been a big help to us, so it was great finally getting to meet her in person. Though I am sorry I didn’t bring any Jell-O for her to snack on. As I looked around their table I saw a particular sketch and made up my mind as to where I was getting my art from. Artifacts artist Michael Broussard was sitting front and center along with Nelson Blake II and Afua Richardson (Pilot Season: Genius). Now if Rocafort and Sejic would have been in the place, it would have been a wrap and I would have left completely broke!

Broussard with Nelson Blake II in the back

Now I tried to play it cool and not geek out too much, but me not having my sketch pad kind of put a wrinkle in my plan. So I’m thankful Nelson was cool enough to let Michael use a sheet out of his, and I was on my way to getting my sketch. While that was being taken care of I talked with Afua and Nelson, and I’m hoping that whatever came out of my mouth was coherent because I actually can’t remember a damn thing I said! If I sounded weird or anything, Afua and Nelson were kind enough not to let me know. Soon after, Michael was done with my sketch and damn did it look good! Ron “Insufferable” Marz showed up, and even though he was busy/tired he took some time to sign my copy of Artifacts alongside Michael.

After finishing up at Top Cow, navigating the con floor just seemed a bit easier. I was on cloud 9 and the geek in me was completely satisfied as that was one of the coolest moments of the entire con for me. So it was time to hit up other publishers and see what I would walk away with. Some I had heard of and others were brand new to me, but it was cool getting to know some of the men and women who are putting these books out. I swung by GG Studio who have been putting out some beautiful work recently, and according to Decapitated Dan they’ve all been worth the read as well. So on his word I picked up the first two issues of The One and colorist Alessia Norera was on hand to sign them for me. I so wished that at that time I spoke Italian so I could tell her how great the books looked. Hopefully the smile on my face said enough…and now that I think about it, I hope I didn’t come off as “the creepy fan.”

Waiting in line was even a bit more enjoyable, because at this time a lot of fans were taking a break or at panels so things moved a bit faster. I even got to break into a rendition of I’m on a Boat with a group of fans (look for the reunion performance next year!) while waiting in one line. We even had a good laugh at the two guys arguing that there was anime at the Comic Convention and comics at the Anime Convention. Though they were quickly ignored as Sue Storm and Loki walked by and distracted us from that nonsense conversation.

Thor & Supa Cool!

Another great meeting was with the creator of the webcomic Supa Cool Man as I bumped into him while checking out the Predator clan and the huge line for Adrien Brody. I’ve read his strip for a while and up until then we had only exchanged a message or two on FB, so it was a great and unexpected meeting as he was there enjoying the day like every other fan. He gave me a few tips to make the rest of my day a little easier, and then we went our separate ways.

I hadn’t taken two steps when that familiar smell punched me in the nose, and it was that smelly guy from earlier and it was at this time I wished my sense of smell was completely gone. While running my mouth earlier I hadn’t noticed that between Adrien Brody and the Predator clan a HUGE crowd had formed around us and I was pushed up against him. As a part of my soul began to die, not even Robocop could help me. Not that he would since he was busy taking pictures with the crowd as well. Finally there was an opening and I took it to the dismay of a few people’s feet, but I felt that it was a necessary move. There was no way I was going to finish my last couple of hours at the con smelling like THAT guy!

Well, I’ve got two more stops to make and a lot more fans to meet up with, so check back in tomorrow’s NYCC recap to see if I was able to help out my buddy Decapitated Dan!

Darkness sketch from Michael Broussard!

Okko vol 1 Hardcover

Okko Vol 2 Hardcover

Signed Litho from Nelson Blake II

Artifacts #1 Signed by Broussard & Ron “Insufferable” Marz

Infinite Speech
infinitespeech@comicattack.net

New York Comic Con 2010 Pt 3: Marvel Moment with Chris Claremont

InfiniteSpeech

Comic Cons

DC Comics

Green Lantern

Infinite Speech

Marvel

New York Comic Con

News

Silver Age

Toys

X-Men

Chris Claremont

DC Direct

NYCC 2010

Stan Lee

Uncanny X-Men

Welcome back to part 3 of my New York Comic Con 2010 experience! If this is your fist time then check out parts one and two to see how the first few hours of my day went. A lot can happen pretty fast at NYCC, which was made very clear to me as I went from meeting Jim Shooter to wanting to kick “Iceman” in the face in a matter of minutes.

When I left you guys last, I was getting something to eat figuring that would help ease my mood after the “Iceman” incident. So after paying way too much for food that wasn’t that great, I was ready to hit the con floor again. Re-energized, at this point in the day I had two goals: Getting Black Panther 1 & 2 (the Jack Kirby run) signed by Stan Lee, and getting Chris Claremont’s signature on a few Uncanny X-Men books. Now as I stood in the very long and winding line waiting for Stan, I met quite a few people who were more than happy to show off their prized books. It’s not often I get to check out books from the 40s, 50s, and 60s up close, so that was kind of cool. However, I got a big kick in the nuts when we heard the announcement that if you did not get a yellow ticket at 10 am then you could not get Stan’s autograph. Well that knocked out most of the line right there (including me), but let me tell you that comic fans are persistent, which led to some very funny exchanges between the event staff and the crowd. The only thing that pissed me off was that at 10 am I was being bounced around by event staff who didn’t know where the hell the press room was! So I could have been where I needed to be and got a ticket, but due to a select few I ended up screwed. The humanity!!

No Stan Lee for these guys!

So on to the next mission at hand. If you’re a longtime fan of the X-Men, you definitely know who Chris Claremont is. If you were introduced to him through the X-Men cartoon in the 90s, then know most of that series’ best moments were taken from stories he wrote for the comics. This guy helped establish the X-Men as THE book to get, and is responsible for some of the hottest stories and character creations in the past couple of decades. Being that I have quite a few books from Claremont’s heyday, it was a hard choice, but I finally decided on Uncanny X-Men #150, Uncanny X-Men #268, Uncanny X-Men #242, and Uncanny X-Men & Teen Titans which I had signed by Terry Austin earlier this year at the Albany Con. Now if only I could get Walt Simonson to sign that book it would be complete!

Now if I remember correctly from Andy’s experience in San Diego, there was a ridiculous ritual to get in the official line for Claremont, and there was a three book limit. Well at NYCC we just had one line with no silly tickets AND he had a five book signing limit instead of three! HA! Things were startin’ to turn around for ol’ Speech here, and I was actually believing that the day would just get better and better. The line was long as hell, but moving at a decent pace, and during the wait I met some great people. The guy in front of me had about eight books, so I offered to take one since I only had four and the guy in front of him took the rest. Finally, we waited…and waited…and…what the hell man! It seemed like the line’s progress was being held up by a cute cute little kids getting chatty with Claremont.

As soon as the munchkin brigade (yes, we nicknamed them) was gone, the line progressed a bit faster, and then it was finally my turn. Things are a bit of a blur, but I remember that when he saw the X-Men & Teen Titans book with Terry Austin’s signature he made the remark that he hadn’t seen that book in quite a long time, and asked when did I get Terry to sign it? After I answered, he signed the rest of the books without saying too much, and then the moment I had been anticipating for years was finally over. Me and the guys who had bonded in that line bid each other farewell and went our separate ways.

Here’s a look at the fruits of my labor!

Feeling like I got something accomplished, it was time to just walk around and take in the scenery. Because I couldn’t bring myself to stand in one more line, I passed on a few more signings. I decided to hang around the Marvel area for a bit, and my jaw dropped when I passed the display case with the action figures. The only thing going through my mind was “Damn! It must be great to be a kid nowadays!” All I had growing up was maybe five points of articulation, and if I was lucky my action figure had the infamous kung fu grip. Now you can pose your figure to do the stuff we only dreamed about back in the day, and I would have KILLED for a Galactus or Sentinel to play with back then. My curiosity now piqued, I made my way over to the DC side to see what they had to show. Not to be outdone, DC had some pretty impressive figures of their own to show off, and it’s pretty evident that a lot of collectors are going to have a hard time deciding on what particular one to get from either company.

Well that’s it for now, folks! It’s time for part two of my New York Comic Con experience from this past Saturday. If you missed the first installment, click here! Now, if you remember, I had just fought my way through one of the thickest clouds of B.O. known to man and was making my way to check out the various comic exhibits. Not knowing who to hit up first, I just walked around and took a couple of pics of cosplayers, and while doing that I realized that I was being pulled. By the Force? Maybe, because looming over me was a pissed off Darth Kryat and above him it read: Star Wars Legacy: War! That’s right Star Wars Legacy fans, it looks like all of that complaining was for nothing, because the best SW title is coming back! It was at that moment that I turned around, and walking right past me was the legendary Jim Shooter!

At this point I was kicking myself for not bringing anything in my collection for him to sign. Shooter has been a force in the industry for as far back as I can remember, and now he’s with Dark Horse bringing back titles like Doctor Solar, Turok, and Magnus, Robot Fighter! The line for him formed pretty quick and I was distracted by several of Top Cow’s Aphrodite cosplayers walking around giving kids balloons. If you’ve read Artifacts #1 you’ll understand why that’s a bit creepy, and if not then pick it up and you’ll understand. Let’s get back to Shooter, though. One guy noticed my lack of books for Shooter to sign and pointed me in the direction of a stand of freebies from Dark Horse, so I snatched up Doctor Solar #1 and a Turok preview, and waited for my chance to finally talk to Shooter. The line was actually moving pretty fast as some of the fans were also there to see the guy standing next to Shooter, and I’m sorry, I don’t know his name, but ah well. After finally making it up to him I introduced myself and thanked him for doing the interview with Comic Attack a few months back. He said it was his pleasure, and somehow the conversation went to how bad he was at the Nintendo Mario Bros. video game back in the day, and then an exchange about how great the new Turok book is going to be. Another hand shake, it was done and I could check this off of my list of things to accomplish at NYCC!

Now I understand this is Comic Con, and everyone from the big money makers to the new guy trying to get his or her name out there is basically hustlin’ their product, whatever that may be. But if I keep walking past your booth while you’re yelling to get my attention, there’s a good chance that I’m not interested. But one guy really didn’t get the hint even when I tried to lose him near the Green Hornet Black Beauty exhibit. And just as I was about to turn around and not be too nice, I was scooped up by a very attractive woman who instantly became my hero and saved that guy some embarrassment. She must have seen what was going on and decided to help me out, and if that’s not the case then let me believe what I want! You should have seen the face of the guy she asked to take our picture though…priceless. We did talk about phones, IGN, Capcom, and about 20 minutes later I was taking a picture with Chun Li and Cammy from the Street Fighter series in front of a green screen. I ended up with a collectible which looks like that site’s home page, but I’m the feature with two of Capcom’s femme fatales!

My hero!

Thankfully the guy caught the hint and decided to go bother someone else, and allowed me to continue my day in relative peace. Well, as much peace as you can get in an over crowded convention center that was beginning to have a very distinct odor to it. Which for some reason was also when my hunger kicked in, and at this point I wished either the intern hadn’t been eaten by zombies or I had Multiple Man’s powers. That way I could stand in line over at the Aspen booth and still get something to eat at the same time. Joe Benitez is one of my favorite artists and his new book, Lady Mechanika, just came out from that publisher. I figured I’d kill two birds with one stone and pick up a copy and get his autograph. Sounds easy, right? I mean my day had been going pretty damn good so far, and what could possibly go wrong at NYCC? I was just saved by a beautiful woman, had a good conversation with Jim Shooter, I was meeting great cosplayers, and all of this before 11 am!

Yeah, all of that was about to change the minute I was on my way to the Aspen booth. I’ll warn you now that if you’re a fan of Iceman you may not like what I’m about to say, but I couldn’t really care less. I actually was a fan up until the moment some 14 or 15-year-old kid dressed as Iceman came running through the con floor, and ended up catching my bag and whipped my arm around so I ended up smacking some woman, and my camera hit the floor. So at this point I go off on the jackass and actually called him “Bobby Drake” and then checked on the woman I had just hit. His mom comes over to see what was wrong, and I think she was dressed as Princess Peach so it was a little hard to take her seriously when she tried to get at me. I told her if little “Bobby” isn’t trained well enough on how to act in public she needs to keep him on a leash. I checked on the woman who was hit one last time, and she thanked me for being concerned, then made my way to the Aspen booth. Way too much excitement before noon and I was hungry as hell at this point.

I looked at my watch and it was almost 11, and I was also on a mission for our editor Kristin who is a Venture Bros. fan. So I stopped and asked a staff member where the room for the Venture Bros. signing that starts at 11 was. He looked at me like I had two heads, which was funny considering the company I was in that day. He then proceeded to tell me that it was moved to Sunday. Thanks for the heads up NYCC! It would have been nice to get this information earlier! My day just keeps getting better and better right? Things did shift a bit when I made it to the Aspen booth and found Joe Benitez doing commissions for fans. It’s always great to see an artist put pencil to paper and create. I quickly snatched up one of the last few remaining Lady Mechanika issues, and he took time from the commission to sign my book. I took a picture, but little did I know that was the very last time that camera would work as it crapped out on me. $#!%& in’ Iceman!!

Time to go cool out and get some food…oh guess who is standing right in front of me holding up the line? That damn Iceman!!!

Be sure to check out tomorrow’s NYCC action when my day starts to get a lot better as I check out some Marvel and DC action figures, and I even get to meet Chris Claremont, which was a LOT cooler than when Andy met him!

For now, I leave you with these!

Joe Benitez getting some commission specifics from a fan.

Signed Lady Mechanika #0!

Kyle Reese

Where were you guys when I was being chased? You would think the mere fact that some of the top talent in the comics industry being present would be enough to motivate me to go. But to make sure I would make the trip, our EIC Andy did threaten that if I failed to attend he would paint the Buffalo Bills logo on my car and on my kid. So with that, I was on my way to the biggest comic convention on the East Coast, in one of the greatest cities on the planet, in hopes of getting some autographs, meeting some great people, and to see what NYCC had to offer! Unfortunately, our last intern was silly enough to get himself eaten by zombies (I told him splitting up was a bad idea), so I would be doing this trip solo; which was cool with me, since I really didn’t like the guy anyway. So come with me as we get into the amazing day I had meeting creators, Cosplayers, and just having a damn good time!

With this being my first time attending NYCC, the anticipation and prep kept me up most of Friday night, which wasn’t too bad since I had to catch a 5 am train to get to the city (I was coming from the Albany area). Plus, I can sleep on the ride there, which is exactly what I did, and when I woke up my mp3 player was playing a song by Nas called Hero (which seemed very fitting), and I was in Manhattan! When I stepped out onto W 31st the first thing I saw was a large group of Anime Cosplayers getting into cabs, and “Spider-Man” sprinting down the street at full speed. I figured he ran out of web fluid or his spider sense was tingling, but either way it was just funny to see.

After getting a bite to eat, I made my way down W 34th, and soon I was at my destination: New York Comic Con 2010! And from looking at the line forming outside, I was so glad I had my press credentials, which I figured would speed things up for me. Alas, that wasn’t the case, as I was pointed in the wrong direction more times than I cared for. I actually stopped counting after eight. The staff on hand really needed to step their game up, but after a sweet old lady finally got me where I needed to be and I got my pass, I was then redirected to a line that wrapped around the OTHER side of the building. After another half hour in line we were finally let in, and yours truly was all set to let his inner geek/fan loose on the con floor for the next several hours.

Making my way through the lobby at this point was pretty easy, since the onslaught of fans really hadn’t arrived yet. So, I figured this was the best time to scout the con floor and get my bearings. I grabbed my program and was on my way! It didn’t take too long to see why mostly everyone was gathered around the center of the con floor; there was a very huge and impressive Marvel vs. Capcom 3 display with multiple screens and gaming stations for fans to get a crack at the new game before it comes out next year. If you had any doubts about how this game plays or looks, than take it from me: you’ll be kicking yourself in the ass if you don’t pick this thing up! From this point on, I figured I would just focus on the comic related video games that were scattered about the floor and have some fun! Plus, I figured that since there was a larger Anime fan base present at the moment, that I had some time to kill before going to the various comic company exhibits. Less comic fans meant shorter lines…little did I know what awaited me later in the day.

Fans in a heated battle on Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Marvel had several screens showing off their upcoming Captain America video game, as well as several game stations showing off their upcoming MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game The Super Hero Squad Online. Both looked good, but my attention was diverted when a guy tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I would like to go with him, as he pointed to a door which led to a room. My facial expression must have given away how awkward he sounded, because he quickly told me that it was for a ten minute presentation on SEGA’s Thor. Not wanting to pass that up, I followed the strange man into the room and left minutes later excited about Thor! In the time I was gone from the con floor, the place had definitely been filling up as it was a lot harder getting to the DC Comics exhibit. I was headed there because I heard a kid yell to his buddy that DC Universe Online was being shown, and since the bad news hit that the game was getting delayed, I figured this was as good a time as any to see what it was about. Since I didn’t get any hands on time, all I can say is that it looks nice! However, the guy standing next to me who smelled like alpaca ass and Axe body spray, turned his nose up to the entire presentation, calling it “cute.” I really wished he would have bathed before coming to the con to stand next to me.

After making it out through that guy’s thick cloud of B.O., I noticed that more and more comic themed cosplayers were arriving, so that also meant that more and more comic fans were arriving. I also knew that if I wasted more time that I’d have to play the standing in line game more than I wanted to when it came time to meeting creators or getting some artwork. So it was time to hit up some of my favorite comic distributors and see what I could come away with.

You’ll see how my ensuing hours play out tomorrow in the next NYCC installment! At that time you’ll find out how a Booth Rep (I hate the term “Booth Babe”) saved me, how Iceman pissed me off, and how my conversation with the legendary Jim Shooter went! ‘Till then I leave you with pictures of lines and an anti-hero with a serious dilemma!

"Press Pass" just means your line is still long but on the other side.

I just $#%&! came from there! The first is the official Return of the Dapper Men trailer which is an original graphic novel in HC format which comes out in November, and after that is Okko: The Cycle of Air #3 which arrived in comic shops yesterday! Check’em out!

Looks pretty cool doesn’t it? I love the trippy feel to the book which is conveyed through the art. Here’s some additional info on Return of the Dapper Men:

“Imagine a land where Time itself has ceased to exist. Where children have played so long it’s almost become work, machines have worked so long they have begun to play and all the clocks have stopped at the same time. A land that’s about to change when 314 identical-looking dapper men rain down from the sky, bringing time back with them.

This is Return of the Dapper Men, part fairy tale, part steampunk, all original, the highly anticipated graphic novel that’s already being hailed as “groundbreaking” and “an instant contemporary classic.” The book features a Foreword by Tim Gunn (Project Runway) and pin-ups by 12 of today’s hottest artists!

Now, Archaia is proud to unveil this stunning new trailer, featuring an original score, animated artwork and an exciting glimpse into the graphic novel. Return of the Dapper Men is a visually stunning fairy tale that combines steampunk with fantasy and science fiction with Renaissance style, brought to life from the minds of award-winning playwright and comic book writer Jim McCann (Hawkeye & Mockingbird) and critically acclaimed visual artist Janet Lee. Together, these two have created a world where J.M. Barrie, Lewis Carroll and Maurice Sendak meet Jim Henson and Tim Burton. All sharply dressed in a pin-stripe suit and a dapper bowler hat.

A limited number of copies of Return of the Dapper Men: Advance New York Comic Con Collector’s Edition will be available for sale at the Archaia booth (#2031) at New York Comic Con, October 8-10 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York, and will be available wherever books are sold in November. To pre-order a copy, use ISBN code 978-1932386905.”

Okko: The Cycle of Air #3, written and illustrated by Hub, came out yesterday in comic shops everywhere! In case you missed it, here’s a preview of the issue complete with solicit info:

“Left for dead after a terrible duel, Okko lies abandoned in the countryside as the Celestial Winds rise and the season of kamikaze cocoons begins. His traveling companions have but one thought: to avenge their friend and master. But can they, even together, hope to defeat that killing machine, the dread demon hunter known as Kubban Kiritsu?”

<a
