Ryan Griffen’s Cleverman returns for its second season and looks to blow the entire roof off the building! A teaser was released during Supanova Expo and it did just enough to get fans ready for what’s to come which makes waiting for June 28th seem that much farther away.

Everything is bigger and better with things looking much darker for the Hairies. Waruu seems to have joined with Slade and completely sold out his people in his quest for “peaceful” coexistence between humans and Hairies. Thankfully his brother, Koen has fully accepted his role and newfound powers as Cleverman and is looking like the badass hero he needs to be in order to step up and save everyone.

Cleverman stars Hunter Page-Lochard, Rob Collins, Deborah Mailman, Rarriwuy Hick, Ryan Corr, Tyson Towney, Iain Glen, Frances O’Connor, and newcomer, Clarence Ryan as Jarli the Bindawu warrior.

Cleverman will debut June 28th on Sundance TV.

The thrilling and original Sci Fi drama “Cleverman” Season 2 picks up hours after the explosive conclusion of season one. In the wake of the Containment Authority’s attack on the zone, Koen sets out to harness his powers with the dream of bringing all cultures together. His brother Waruu shares the same vision, yet now allied with Slade, his methods are far more dubious. Outside the city limits, a new threat lurks that will challenge both brothers’ pursuits.

Publisher: Titan
Writer: Alan Martin
Artist: Brett Parson
Cover: Black Frog

If you’ve been missing your dose of Tank Girl then look no further! Once again we’re tossed into post-apocalyptic Australia on another wild adventure where things can go from bad to crazy bad at any given moment. That’s pretty much what happens here when Tank Girl realizes her beloved tank is gone. If you’re new to this series understand that this is like Speed Racer without the Mach 5 or Batman with no Batmobile. It just shouldn’t happen! The circumstances that resulted in the tank’s disappearance seem to have two very different stories but the only thing that matters is getting it back. So Tank Girl, her boyfriend Booga, and best friend Barney head out to do just that!

It’s been some time since I’ve headed into the over the top adventures of Tank Girl and things are still fun. Though, not as chaotic and ridiculous as I remember this is still a great Tank Girl story. Alan Martin keeps things on a certain path here but it’s infused with the right amount of foul language and comedy that we expect in these stories. Aside from the usual great cast we know and love, Martin introduces us to Magnolia. She’s a complication in the story but he makes her a very fun one. Hence her becoming the other girl in this missing tank story.

Parson’s art is just as fun as the narrative and he nails everything necessary to make it work. From the minute you see that iconic tank with it’s insane weaponry, bullet holes, and dirty socks, you’ll appreciate the crazyness of it all. Tank Girl and her crew setting off on their quest is just a great sequence and he keeps it filled with visual comedy. The standout part would be Magnolia’s “transformation”. No dialogue is used but from panel to panel we get a sense of the character and that she has her own story.

Tank Girl: Two Girls One Tank #1 is great for longtime fan’s and if you’re new to this world it’s still a great beginning to jump into. That’s what a first issue should do and kudos to Martin and Parson for making this accessible to all readers. So whether Booga lost the tank in a card game or you believed it was stolen, this is going to be one wild ride to get it back!

This summer ABC Australia and Sundance TV brings the story of an Aboriginal superhero in Cleverman! So from the looks of this trailer we are in for something great here!

Set in a dystopian future, Cleverman draws from the mythology of Australia’s Aboriginal people and focuses on Koen, played by Hunter Page-Lochard. Currently his uncle is the ‘Cleverman’ though it seems as if the abilities and responsibility will be passed down to Koen. This weight will now be his to bear as he attempts to navigate the obstacles of his newfound abilities, title, and belonging to a people who are currently being persecuted. A theme that strongly reflects the current treatment of the Indigenous people in Australia.

As far as diversity goes and the breaking down of stereotypes Cleverman is doing something big and important here with an eighty percent Indigenous cast.

“I wanted to bring something Aboriginal, Indigenous, to that world.”, said Concept Developer, Ryan Griffen .“As the son of a light-skinned Aboriginal man and a light-skinned Aboriginal woman, it was important for me that my son had a cultural superhero that he could look up to as a young Aboriginal person. Something he could connect to that was also entertaining.”

In an interview earlier this year with Fairfax, Page-Lochard says, “It’s not the state usually painted for our culture.” “The number of times I’ve played the poor, troubled black kid who drinks! It was beautiful not to see the stereotypes in this and to see a platform for our Indigenous actors.”

“At its heart, Cleverman is a thrilling and sophisticated drama filled with conflict, unrest and smart storytelling. “, said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. “The show presents an allegorical view of some of the timeliest and urgent discussions going on our world right now — our collective treatment of minority groups and what common values we share that make us a society.”

Everything about the trailer pretty much demands you give Cleverman the chance it deserves. Especially if you’re here for a more diverse casting in front and behind the camera!
