“War pt 1”: Darth Krayt is back, stronger than ever, and pissed off that his most trusted follower was the one who betrayed him. Upon his revival, those loyal to him are now again at his side and ready to kill any Sith that stands against his ascension to his rightful place as leader of the One Sith. On the other side of that, Darth Wyyrlok attempts to keep his new found position as he and his own followers attempt to stop Krayt from reaching his goal. This Sith vs. Sith battle royal is just one of the obstacles in Krayt’s way, as Cade Skywalker is still on the hunt for him and will settle for nothing less than the Sith leader’s death.

Now when Dark Horse announced that Star Wars: Legacy would be ending with its 50th issue, there was plenty of fan outcry and disappointment. We knew this complex story couldn’t have been wrapped up in the final three-issue story arc and were hoping that something else was on the horizon. Well, Ostrander and Duursema haven’t lost a step with the continuation of the series in Star Wars: Legacy: War! If you are not caught up on the previous series, there are quite a few recaps here that will get you a little up to speed regarding the origin of Darth Krayt and Cade Skywalker. There is a nice balance of new information sprinkled about the issue that breaks up what we already know. Well, those of us who were reading Star Wars: Legacy, that is.

Duursema’s artwork, as always, is some of the best to grace the inside of a comic and she’s handling quite the large cast of characters here. From the quiet moments of the vigil for the fallen Imperial Knights to one hell of a light saber duel, her skills never falter. I also like how there are little hints of familiarity when it comes to some of the designs, but most of what we see is new which helps the Star Wars: Legacy era visually stand out in the franchise that’s over thirty years old.

This is another limited series which will only span six issues, which honestly doesn’t sit well with me. However before I spout off without knowing what may or may not come after this series, I’ll hold off commenting any further. If you haven’t read Star Wars: Legacy I would still suggest picking up this series just for the mere fact that Ostrander and Duuresema continue to bring quality storytelling to the Star Wars franchise.

I thought this issue started out with a bang! Sad that this is the final go, but can’t wait to see how it all ends.

Do you really think they’ll be able to solve all of those loose plot lines in just six issues though?
