Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi: Force Storm #1

Every Star Wars fan has at some point wondered where the Force came from and who were some of the first to wield it. Dawn of the Jedi: Force Storm will finally shed some light on what has remained a mystery for several decades. This era takes place over 36,ooo years before Episode IV and introduces us to something that remains familiar but is still brand new. As the issue opens, Ostrander gives us the “how” through glimpses of events carried by some pretty strong dialog. It’s not until the second half of the book that we’re formally introduced to several characters that are pretty key in moving the plot. The Force Hound, Xesh, already appears to be the guy that will be causing many problems in this series. Plus, he’s got all of the things we love in a Force wielding badass: black armor, a light saber, and he’s a man of few words.

Once again fans are given more stunning visuals from Jan Duursema to illustrate this tale. Making the intro something great for the eyes since it starts a bit slow. Much like with Star Wars: Legacy, she’s on point when it comes to drawing the various alien races from Twi’Leks to Wookies. Though it’s her detailed backgrounds and varied settings that have been consistently impressive. Much of that can also be credited to Wes Dzioba and Dan Parsons for the colors and inks, bringing it all full circle. Seriously, this is one great looking issue.

The beginning of the entire Star Wars mythos starts here, and this creative team is laying the foundation all too well. Ostrander continues to keep Star Wars themes fresh and new, making this just as enjoyable for longtime fans as it will be for any newcomer to the series. So, as the story of the Je’daii and the Infinite Empire unfolds, be prepared to experience awesome!
