Looks like DC Comics’ other dynamic duo will once again join forces and hopefully redeem themselves from their last animated adventure. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will hit shelves and be available for Download on Sept. 28, 2010. This new animated feature is based off of the Supergirl from Krypton story arc in the Superman/Batman comic, issues #8-13, by Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner. The story has been adapted and written by Tab Murphy, produced by Bruce Timm, and directed by Lauren Montgomery. Here’s an excerpt from the official press release:
After a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor, Batman and Superman encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.
Now, any true fan of DC’s/Warner Bros.’ Superman and Batman animated shows are really interested in one major issue, and that’s the voice casting! Well, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent is Tim Daly, and the one and only Kevin Conroy will be doing double voices as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Another welcome original will be Susan Eisenburg, who will be reprising her role as Wonder Woman. The rest of the voice cast has Andre Braugher as Darksied, and fanboy eye candy Summer Glau as Superman’s Kryptonian cousin Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Last but not least is the return of a DC animated mainstay in Edward Asner (if you don’t know who he is, step your game up) as Granny Goodness once again.
Even though I know Aquaman will probably make an appearance, I’m willing to give Superman/Batman: Apocalypse a shot, mainly because this was a great story arc by Loeb and Turner. The animation also looks good, and it should be a definite step up from the previous Superman/Batman: Public Enemies movie. So get ready for the September 28, 2010 release of the 2-disc Special Edition DVD and the Special Edition Blu-Ray. There will also be a Green Arrow short included with these versions. Oh, and could that be Clayton Crain’s artwork for the box art? I think it is!
DC and Warner Bros. aren’t going to just sit and bask in the greatness they hope Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will be, as they have also announced that Dwayne McDuffie (Ben 10, Justice League, Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths) has been tapped to adapt Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly’s All-Star Superman into a feature animated film.
The series ran for twelve issues, so it will be interesting to see how McDuffie fits it into one film. There isn’t a specific release date as of yet, but it’s projected to arrive in the spring of 2011. I will say that if you have not read this series, I suggest you go ahead and snatch up the trade, because Morrison and Quietly put out a quality piece of comic greatness for twelve issues!

Are there usually two different people doing the voice for Batman and Bruce Wayne?
Also…I’m actually kind of interested in this. I enjoyed the early issues of Superman/Batman.
Kevin Conroy made it a point to make the voices of Bruce Wayne and Batman sound different back in Batman: The Animated Series and pretty much kept that up whenever he did the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Let’s just say he does a MUCH better job than Christian Bale does in the movies.
Those early Superman/Batman issues were very good and are some of my favorites. I just wasn’t a fan of the Public Enemies animated that came out becuase it just fell so short of the actual story arc in the books.
My first introduction to this series was the Public Enemies movie. This however, looks so much better. So glad that Kevin Conroy is doing Batman/Bruce’s voice. There really is no other voice for Batman than his. Maybe Bale can get some lessons from him, goodness knows he needs them.

Kevin Conroy’s Batman voice is the one i hear in my head whenever i read Batman in the comics. This story was pretty cool in the comics and i am sure it will be great in this movie too.
