Hey everybody, welcome to another cool character spotlight on ComicAttack.net! This week’s spotlight will continue with my theme of Dark Horse characters, and specifically B.P.R.D. characters at that, with Liz Sherman! Get ready for some action, because she’s one hot headed girl that’s always ready to kick butt! She was created by Mike Mignola in 1994 (Hellboy: Seed of Destruction).
Liz was your average little girl until around her tenth birthday. It was soon after that her pyrokinetic abilities first fully manifested. She inadvertently killed everyone on her entire block, including her parents and brother. Professor Broom basically adopted her and took her to the B.P.R.D., where she would live and be taught how to control her powers. It took a few years, but she eventually became adept enough to keep her powers in check, and only use them for fighting the occult forces that threaten the Earth. She actually went as far as to live with some monks in the Ural Mountains to help control her fantastic but dangerous powers. She even tried to rid herself of her powers by using them to bring Roger the Homonculus back to life.
Liz tried to always keep her powers in check, but really let loose to destroy an entity called Katha-Hem. She used her fantastic powers to burn this entity to dust, but soon afterward began having nightmares that would plague her for a while. In these nightmares, Memnan Saa tells Liz that the Plague of Frogs is coming, and that it will be worse than anything they can handle. This would prove to be true, as during this battle Liz used her now even higher power level to expend an incredible burst of flame that wiped out not only the frogs and hyperborean army, but half of the planet as well. Since this terrible event, Liz seems to have lost her powers, and it is unknown if this is temporary or permanent, or if it’s a mental state that she has entered because of the guilt from killing innocent people.
In last year’s B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: Monsters story, Liz was shown living in a trailer park amongst a bunch of rednecks that turned out to be worshiping some cult. She did her best to break it up, but it remains to be seen if she was successful. She was actually plagued by nightmares then as well, but her father was the person in those dreams. Whether she’ll return to the B.P.R.D. or not remains a mystery.
As usual, check out my recommended reading list along with some of Liz Sherman’s best cover shots. Enjoy!
