[dropcap]I[/dropcap]f you’ve been waiting to see Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and the rest of the star studded cast of Aquaman in action your time has finally arrived! The trailer dropped at SDCC showing off plenty of exciting shots of Atlantis and the various undersea races as well as a glimpse of Arthur Curry aka Aquaman’s origin. There was something pretty scary about a young Arthur having a shark at his command while on the class field trip. For those of you who wanted to get more Mera after her cameo in Justice League will be pleased to see there’s just as much of her in this trailer and since she’s a badass in the comics this seems only right.
Being the only DC movie we’ll be getting this year, Aquaman will have plenty of room to flex and hopefully impress beyond this trailer. Which surprisingly enough also gave us the long awaited debut of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in full Black Manta costume and it looks fantastic! But that’s enough from me just click play and see for yourself and then you can wait until December 21st to see Aquaman on the big screen!
But wait, there’s more!
[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ans at SDCC were also treated to the brand new Shazam! trailer that looks to be a lighthearted superhero adventure which is a huge tonal change from the previous DCU films. There’s plenty of jokes and it just feels like a fun movie which isn’t aa bad thing despite what some may thing. Dark and gritty can’t work for everything, right?
The trailer hits on young Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who becomes the super hero known as Shazam played by Zachary Levi. The only one who knows his secret identity is Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) and we see them attempt to hilariously assess these new powers from charging cell phones to learning to fly. However, it gets serious when a classic Shazam villain shows up and brings the pain. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait until April 19, 2019 to see Shazam in theaters but if this is an indication of what we’re getting then the wait just might be worth it!
[dropcap]B[/dropcap]lack Lightning fans will be excited to hear that we’ll be seeing more of Khalil aka Painkiller as actor Jordan Calloway will now be a series regular in the upcoming season! The news was revealed by Black Lightning showrunner/executive producer Salim Akil during the Black Lightning panel at SDCC.
Khalil Payne was a high school All-American track star with dreams of going to the Olympics until a stray bullet severed his spine, leaving him embittered and unable to walk. Black Lightning’s archnemesis Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) offers him legs for loyalty. Khalil accepts the offer and receives cybernetic enhancements that transform him into the Painkiller, meta-strong and able to generate an anesthetic from his body that causes temporary paralysis when delivered through darts. Now, he is a living weapon for a ruthless crime boss. Before long, he pines for his old life and dreams, and his teenaged love, Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain).
