The Guild is an online sitcom created by Felicia Day. The story revolves around an online gaming guild called the Knights of Good who play a massively multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG). The Knights of Good interact with each other outside of the game, mostly due to situations arising in their lives. After a two year video game addiction, Felicia Day wrote the pilot to The Guild in 2007. After The Guild debuted, it developed a broad fan base of gamers and non-gamers. The Guild also inspired Joss Whedon, whom Felicia worked with in the past, to create a web TV series called Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. In 2009, Felicia Day wrote the comic The Guild based off of the online sitcom.

The Guild was a great story. It was nice to see characters doing individual activities other than gaming. The show only has the opportunity to showcase the characters’ activities related to plot or a set up for a joke. The artwork was very fun and quirky. In essence, the main characters were identifiable. I was able to tell which character was which, but the drawings didn’t necessarily look like the actors who portray them.
Switching to a more realistic style for their online game segments was very thoughtful. It separated the comic’s reality from the story’s fantasy world.
The Guild is a hilarious show. Characters are written with noticeable flaws as well as endearing personalities. The comic managed to capture that energy, and is considered a must read for any fans of the show.
