Gabriel’s journey continues as Matonti and Rashid take us further into the events that helped shape him. He’s been using his power to travel to various worlds and in some cases offer assistance when he can. However, he finds that there are those who would take his knowledge and use it for destruction rather than the good he intended it for. Though, the real danger here is Gabriel’s “first” encounter with Deadalus who is determined to kill him for everything he’s done. The problem with this is that Gabriel has no idea what he’s done wrong to this creature who seems to have known him for years.

New Dawn has been great comic fun since the first issue due to the strength of the story and the artwork as well. Matonti and Rashid have also proven that a character’s appeal can be improved with a solid and meaningful origin story. They show that for all of his good intentions Gabriel is quite naïve but because of his actions someone else suffers. This is probably the worst thing that could happen to him at this point and our writers make sure we see how that affects his decisions later on. It also has served to drive the current plot as well as add some depth to events in the original series. All of these things are what make for a great issue and series as a whole.

Bulda continues to knock it out of the park when it comes to the artwork with the assist from Agot and Arce on inks and colors. There isn’t one page or panel here that doesn’t stand out or visually carry the story for the reader. One page in particular stands out as one of the most eye catching is Gabriel on the futuristic planet. From the perspective to the imagery everything just looks fascinating as the spires and columns reach up towards your eye.

The only thing New Dawn could have benefitted from would have been a recap page due to the length of time between the issues. Other than that, I recommend picking up New Dawn and then suggesting the series to a friend of sci-fi and fantasy!
