“Get Luke!”:  Just when the New Avengers think they can catch a break, reality reminds them that it’s still got its foot planted firmly in their collective rear ends and doesn’t plan on removing it anytime soon!  They ran into a group of villains with a power siphoning device and barely escaped with their lives.  However, Luke Cage is dying as a result of the encounter and after going to the Night Nurse for help, our heroes were surrounded and to help them escape Cage gave himself up to the Dark Avengers.

After waking up from surgery, Norman lets Cage know he is under arrest but if he rats out the other Avengers, Cage’s wife and child will be safe.  Now the good guys aren’t about to sit around while Osborn has his way with Cage, so they are devising a plan that’s bound to work mainly because the bad guys have been using it on them for years.  They’ll create a distraction at one location while busting Luke out at the other!  And to provide some more muscle some of Cage’s friends have shown up to support the New Avengers, because as a very pissed off Mrs. Cage put it,  “You don’t @#$^ with Luke Cage!”

New Avengers has been a fun book regardless of how bad Bendis has made it for the heroes and I like his take on two characters I’ve never really been fond of: Hawkeye and Mockingbird.  Spider-Man is even more enjoyable here at times than in his own series.  This issue in particular is pretty fast paced and full of action and I like Bendis’ choice of back up that help pull the plan off.  Stuart Immonen is dynamite throughout the entire book!  From the attack on Camp H.A.M.M.E.R. to Iron Fist bringing down a Helicarrier, they are just awesome panels.  Things will obviously get worse before they get better and Bendis isn’t letting these guys off the hook too easily.  We get a hint of that on the last page with the close up of Luke’s heart.

Now I do have a small issue with the book and it’s the appearance or apprearences of Iron Fist.  Not that I don’t like Danny it’s just that he’s shown with the attack force at Camp H.A.M.M.E.R. in New Mexico and with the rescue group in New York.  Other than that, New Avengers continues to do well in my eyes.

LOL-maybe the “Danny” on the helicarrier was one of Strange’s illusions too. Good review IS.

The only Avengers book I read is Dark Avengers. I could never get into the other characters.

I dumped mighty avengers a while back in favor of keeping this book and I say it’s well worth it. Yeah Dark Avengers is a great book but this one has been pretty damn good since Secret Invasion.
