Hello everyone,  I hope you all are having a great weekend! In this week’s edition of Marvel Snapshot, I’m going to be featuring a spotlight on one of my favorite (and it’s a small list) modern age characters in Exodus! This is one of the few characters that I really think has had a profound effect on things, and can for years to come. Exodus was created by Scott Lobdell and Joe Quesada. Let us dive into the history and evil machinations of this one time adventurer from the 12th century!
OK, so, the history of Exodus is a little confusing, and I’m going to need you to bear with me. The first time Exodus appeared, was in X-Factor #92. This was a quick appearance, and he didn’t even have any dialog, but he scared the crap out of everybody. He then went on to be a part of the rest of that story line (Fatal Attractions), and then really throw down in Bloodties (an X-Men/Avengers crossover).
The next big thing for Exodus was the alternate reality story of Age of Apocalypse. This was a fantastic story that featured Exodus as a hero, rather than a villain. It was really refreshing to see him in that role. I will freely admit, though, I like him much better as a villain. Speaking of villains, we were then treated to the origin of Exodus in my favorite one-shot of all time. The book, Black Knight: Exodus, revealed that Exodus, or Bennett Du Paris (his real name), has been alive since the 12th century and was once the best friend of Eobar Garrington (one of the men to hold the mantle of Black Knight). The two friends were part of the Crusades, but eventually heard a rumor of a powerful tower in the deserts of Akkaba. This famed tower was the home of none other than Apocalypse himself. I won’t spoil it for you, but needless to say it is a great read!
The next big highlight for Exodus for me, was his throw down with Cable and X-Man. Yep, that’s right, he took on both dudes at the same time, and nearly defeated both of them. It was only the raw power and a huge psychic attack by Nate Grey that subdued (albeit temporarily) Exodus. Later, he reformed the Acolytes (he had earlier been a part of Magneto’s Acolytes, but they disbanded after the battle on Avalon), and set out to rid the world of any beings he defined as “abominations.” That was quite an adventure and ended up being a huge brawl with the High Evolutionary in Wundagore.
The last great moment for me, was when Exodus saved Xavier’s life, and tried to re-write his brain. After not succeeding, and battling a now powerless Magneto, Exodus went one on one with Xavier on the Astral Plane. As Exodus had Xavier on the ropes, he left himself open due to his overconfidence, and was mentally pimp slapped by Charles. Afterwards, Xavier told Exodus to disband the Acolytes and quit trying to kill people, or he would turn off his mind! This led directly into Messiah Complex, and hopefully more great things for this powerful mutant in the future.
