Hey everybody, welcome to another great spotlight, right here in Marvel Snapshot! In this installment, we’ll be looking at a woman who can not only beat you with guile, but also raw power, if need be! This woman is known as Amora, or better known as The Enchantress! Beautiful, yes, but also quite deadly! She’s been a thorn in the side of Thor for a long time, and it appears she’ll never stop! She was created by Stan Lee and Jack ‘King’ Kirby, in Journey Into Mystery #103, 1964.
The sultry Amora was born in Asgard, but who her parents are is a mystery. Her roots are a mystery, but her magical prowess isn’t. She studied under Karnilla, Queen of the Norns, and quickly rose to be a rival of her mentor. She was then recruited by Odin himself, and her mission was to kill Jane Foster, whom Odin deemed a distraction for his son. In reality, though, she wants Thor for herself, and with the aid of The Executioner, she attempts to get her way.
Later, Odin banishes them (Amora and Skurge) both to Earth, and the two join Baron Zemo’s Masters of Evil. After a few brawls between her new teammates and the Avengers, she later partners with the Mandarin in a plot to take over the world. She participated in the Secret Wars on Battleworld, fought alongside Thor and all of Asgard in the war against Surtur, and even battled Seth (Egyptian god of death)!
Amora and Heimdall have a bit of a romantic fling, but it’s short lived due to his wanting to be married, and she wants to be a “player.” In the Acts of Vengeance story, she and Skurge attack Doctor Strange and Clea. Eventually, during Ragnarok, Amora is killed by Loki, but she’s later reanimated by Thor, accidentally. One thing is for sure, it will only be a matter of time before she shows up again, trying to trip up Thor!
As usual, check out my recommended reading list, along with some great shots of the Enchantress! See you next time!
