Coming this April from writer Jonathan Hickman (Fantastic Four, Secret Warriors) and artist Dustin Weaver (X-Men) is Shield #1. Marvel has released this info along with some artwork, which I’ll post below.

Do not miss this Marvel Comics masterpiece that fans will be talking about for decades to come. All the insanity is courtesy of JONATHAN HICKMAN (FANTASTIC FOUR, SECRET WARRIORS, Nightly News) and DUSTIN WEAVER (X-MEN) 40 pages. /Rated T.
I am so pumped for this series to start. There isn’t much to find as far as content other than what Marvel has leaked out, but I have to tell you that first cover pic by Gerald Parel has what appears to be a former star-spangled Avenger on it if you noticed. Many have speculated that Steve Rogers himself is going to be running S.H.I.E.L.D. once Siege is over with. How will Nick Fury handle this? Mark your calendars because this cannot be missed!

So it’s supposed to be…what exactly? A comic about the history of SHIELD?
@Kris-Yep, something along those lines. It’s really sketchy except for the above description. I belive it’s going to be a 6 issue limited series.
Kris, Jonathan described it to me personally as ” a Hickman book set in the Marvel Universe, hundreds and thousands of years ago”. Oh, and Dustin Weaver is NUTS, wait till you see his art. Till then, check out this little piece:

S.H.I.E.L.D. is thousands of years old now? What about when the U.S. government founded it and placed Nick Fury in charge back in the original 60’s stories?
I tend to dislike revisionist history.
I was thinking the same thing Bill. I guess Marvel will find a way around that bit of continuity the only question is: will it be believable?
The art does look good though! Quite a bit of detail in that Da Vinci picture.
@Bill & Speech-If it’s done right, I’m on board but if it’s a pile of crap, then I’m out. lol
Sounds to me like “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, only with actual historical figures, instead of historical literary figures. Hmmm. Curious.
@Aron-It really sounds intruiging to me as well. I can’t wait to see who the individual is that started the concept of Shield originally.
except, in hebrew Shield is magen, in Italian it’s scudo… and doesnt Shield stand for Strategic Hazard Intervention, Espionage Logistics Directorate? It sure seems like Marvel editorial doesn’t challenge the writers on the concepts they come up with, its like one big reach around fest.
Seems like an incredible reach from the start, and instead of trying to create buzz by mum lips, theyd do themselves more favors by giving more info, yes?
@David-I’m onboard for the first 2 issues but if they fall short, I’m out. I like the pics I’ve seen and the previews book made it sound intereting enough for me to give it a chance.
