Live Action Space Adventure Cobra On The Way!

Live Action Space Adventure Cobra On The Way!

It was reported last week that director Alexandre Aja, who directed the remake of The Hills Have Eyes and Pirana 3-D, will be fulfilling his long cherished dream of a live action adaptation of the classic Japanese manga/anime series Space Adventure Cobra by Buichi Tersawa, to be released at theaters in the summer of 2013.
Aja says of his love: “I grew up dreaming about Cobra. My day was, finish school, run home, and  switch  on the TV, and I was hardly the only one. Kids did it in France, Italy, Spain, all over Western Europe. For many people there is Star Wars and nothing else, but for me and my writing partner Gregory, there is Star Wars and Cobra.”
The film budgeted at an estimated $100 million U.S. dollars is expected to start filming under the title Cobra: The Space Pirate in Europe after this winter, with the cast to be announced soon. In the meantime, Aja has given us a sleek little teaser poster.

Neither of those two movies he previously did impressed me much. However that poster is HOT! Hope this does the fans proud and since he’s an actual fan I feel better about the interpretation he’ll put out.

Yeah, I never heard of this before, but that poster looks badass.

Andy, you’d love it. Its heavy metal/5th element stuff but with a slight james bond-meets-golgo 13 flare. Crunchy Roll streams some of the anime versions, including the ones we reviewed, for free, check them out 🙂

I haven’t been expecting much from this, but reading that the director is a long-time fan of the show, I do have a bit of hope. The teaser poster looks really cool; I just hope they keep the original Japanese theme tune and Cobras dorky humour, his character is a lot of fun.
