The first of Long Beach’s comic conventions has come and gone once more. Last year’s Long Beach Comic Con saw a raise in security but it left some feeling off put by it. Did this year’s Expo learn from past mistakes? How was the cosplay? Was the con fun? Let’s find out!
Gone are the signs that mean you can’t bring in basic things like bags into the convention anymore. There are still metal detectors but they are swift at letting you in even with lines. There was still the issue that if you buy a knife or sword inside, which they still allow said booths so your safety can be just as up in the air if they care to remind you, you can’t bring that item back into the con floor if you want to lunch outside the convention center. Several cons have started to add places you can hold such items in a sort of locker set up, which Long Beach may want to take into consideration. Still confused as to how safe we are when you can buy weapons at several booths still. If you’ve ever been to a crowded con before, you’re more likely to get smacked by a sword swinging around on accident than you are a backpack, and that’s saying something. Either way, this Expo felt a bit better about handling security than even just a few months prior.
The convention itself was a good time, Long Beach has some of the better con experiences once you get in. It’s not too big and not too crowded so you can see everything in a day or two just fine. You’ll see top notch cosplay and they’ve been getting some bigger celebrity guests, this year had some of the actors from Twin Peaks. The cosplay is always top notch at this convention, people seem to be eager to show off their new works starting with this con. Hoping this fall’s Long Beach Comic Con continues to improve on their security and have some more great times ahead of us. See you next time!
