Kick-Ass is the ultimate deterrent for delusions of grandeur running around in anyone’s head!
This issue finally brings us full circle as to how 16 year old Dave Lizewski aka Kick-Ass, ends up sitting in a chair with a car battery hooked up to his genitals. Betrayed by Red Mist who is another costumed kid that was inspired by Kick-Ass, he is let in on the secret that it was all a ruse to flush out Big Daddy and Hit-Girl; two MORE costumed vigilantes who actually have training and skills. The reason they are so important is because they have been picking off mobsters. Mob boss Mr. Genovese has no idea why the father and daughter team of Big Daddy and Hit-Girl have targeted him, and he’s going to find out why! So now that he has all 3 captured he does what bad guys do best; painfully torture their captives for information. Boy, does the REAL TRUTH come out!!!
I am going to admit that when I first heard about this title I really thought it was going to be yet another uber violent splatter fest with no real direction. Mark Millar has proven me so very wrong and for that I’m pretty damn grateful! For the past seven issues I’ve either laughed or been shocked at the story Millar has crafted here. Dave’s inner dialogue is great and there is some real depth to his character. The supporting cast are just as interesting and integral to the story, too. John Romita Jr. does a good job with the series art and you really feel the pain and fear while Kick-Ass is sitting in that torture chair. The fight scenes are so visceral and painful to look at, but you just can’t turn away!
I’m happy that this series didn’t wear off on me as I’m still very much invested in the story. This issue in particular was just a great, fun read, giving the reader a lot in terms of story and action. There is a pretty good reveal in the book and the last page is just a great set up for the next issue. As a little bonus at the end of the book, John Romita Jr. has supplied a drawing of Kick-Ass, Big Daddy, Hit-Girl, and Red Mist as they will look in the upcoming Kick-Ass movie!! Without sounding like too much of a baby, if I had to complain about something it would be the excruciatingly long wait in-between issues!

I have been wanting to read this series for sooooo long! It’s hard as heck to find the individual issues. It’d be nice if a trade came out before the movie.
Dude, this issue was CRAZY! I loved how Hit Girl’s dad was able to pay for all their weapons and stuff.
I haven’t been able to keep up with the current comic scene like I would have liked to…but JR JR is one of the most exciting artists out there, and it’s nice to see him get a book like this!
I don’t know if i could have done that to fund my vigilante career i’d have to get 2 day jobs or somethin’ lol
Everybody keeps telling me how much I’m missing out by not reading this. I didn’t pay much attention at first, but then I realized, “Why aren’t I reading this?” I love Mark Millar! I’ll pick this up when it’s collected!

With those two names at the top of the book it should be selling out. Is it doing well? The name turns me off a little I must confess.
from what i’ve seen and heard Billy, it’s doing quite well. The series is being made into a movie as we speak and i’ve been to several comic stores and they have a hard time keeping it on the shelf.
It truly is a fantastic book that suffers from an instant stereotype because of the title. However the title alone was enough to draw some attention to a book ,from a small publisher about characters no one had ever heard of, so really I don’t think it was a bad way to go. As for the book, yes its bloody, yes its violent, and yes its wonderful. Millar and JRJR took something every comic nerd has thought at some point ” Ya know Castle is just a dude with a gun… I can do that” and has created a wonderful story about what it could really be like.
It is unreasonably hard to get ahold of these 7 issues, especially if you jumped on board late, and I have got to think that a trade will come out in time for the movie, to get as many butts in the seats as possible. If that is the case, I implore you to leave what ever issues you may have towards either the artists, or the title and give it a shot. We are all here because we are comic fans, and there is a very short list of amazing comics out there, and Kick-Ass is on it.
