With the first two issues of the main series already here, it’s time for Marvel to start rolling out the tie-ins to the series. You know what that means don’t you folks?! It’s that time when you roll the dice and take a chance on reading an issue that has absolutely nothing to do with the core title, but for some reason bears the event’s banner on the cover. Well, we’re here to see what’s good and what’s not so good with the Original Sin tie-ins!
Avengers #30

I am no longer confused about this title like I was in our coverage last week. Nor has anything changed with me toward this series since it started thirty issues ago. I just don’t like it. Period. And this issue isn’t anywhere near Leinil Francis Yu’s best work, either.
If you are reading this for the ORIGINAL SIN tie-in, don’t. The month of June will begin an explosion of ORIGINAL SIN titles and this is not one I will touch again. Watch it become event-relevant in its last issue of this arc and further strengthen my opinion that the majority of tie-in issues are solely printed just to get your money. If Cap, Iron Man, and Thor are future hopping, how could they possibly be main players in the core title? – AF

Deadpool #30

I remember when this title was funny. I remember when vampires in the Marvel U were cool. This issue, sadly, has neither of those qualities. Nor does it have good art. Although the li’l Deadpool from the recap page was pretty nice.
Instead, we get some bad jokes, failing sight gags, a bathroom joke that doesn’t work if you think about it, a fat S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent (Is that even legal?), and the events of ORIGINAL SIN are happening in the background. – AF

So you’re expecting me to believe that without Uatu’s eye “exploding” in Original Sin #2 the whereabouts of Wade’s daughter would still be a mystery? That connection was so thin that even in the recap it wasn’t mentioned until the end of it. This only leads me to believe that this particular plot thread was just squeezed in to fit with the timing of the Original Sin event. Especially since the bulk of the story still focuses on Deadpool helping his new bride deal with their vampire problem. There’s very little Original Sin in here and the “reveal” wasn’t too spectacular either.
As far as a tie-in issue to the main event you can skip out on it, but if you’re still enjoying the vampire storyline and don’t mind some time travel and disco Dazzler, then this issue is for you. – IM

Mighty Avengers #10

This issue of Mighty Avengers gets major kudos for being the most connected tie-in issue to Original Sin that came out this week! Now, while there are other plots being developed and expanded on by Ewing, what really stands out is the relationship between Uatu and Blue Marvel. How deep their friendship ran was something new to me, and there’s a surprise thrown in that hopefully will send ripples into the Marvel U in the coming years.
There’s still aspects of Land’s artwork that don’t sit too well with me, however, there is quite the humorous fight scene with Blade that just can’t be denied here. It’s fun to look at and is definitely a visual high point in the issue.
If you’re looking for a tie-in that’s worth your time because it’s actually an expansion of the main title and not a cash grab, then snatch up a copy of Mighty Avengers! – IM

Uatu the Watcher has a family. Did you know that? I didn’t know that. Not until I read this issue of MIGHTY AVENGERS. This was a great issue as far as comic books go. It was a really great issue as far as tie-ins go. It dealt directly with the event it is tied to.
I have no prior knowledge or experience with Adam Brashear, but he and Ulana (Uatu’s wife) captivated my attention for the duration of the issue. An issue all about the Watcher’s life and more heroes committing to solving his murder.
I didn’t really pay attention to Greg Land’s (it isn’t very good) art because Al Ewing had me so wrapped up in the story. I have always enjoyed his Judge Dredd stuff when I could actually find it, but now I think I have a favorite new Marvel writer. I am sticking with this book past the tie-ins!
Oh yeah…and Blade did some stuff. – AF
