The people have cried out for help in keeping up with the many-issued madness of comic company event books! Well, that call has been answered by two guys who have answered a call or two in their lives! Infinite Man and Aron Fist are here to save your sanity, and hopefully save you from picking up that really crappy tie-in book that has absolutely NO REASON to exist. Original Sin #8

Everything Jason Aaron has been doing all comes together here, and for better or for worse he has shaken things up a bit for the Marvel Universe. Though a couple of things still left me scratching my head that I feel needed a better explanation, but we’ll get to that later. As for the story itself it’s a pretty action packed ending as Aaron delves more into what happened between Uatu and Fury in the Watcher’s final moments after he was attacked by Dr. Midas. This is one of those situations that will taint Fury’s legacy among the other heroes as it was definitely one of those “you had to be there” moments. None of them will understand the entirety of the situation, but this does add to the drama in the final minutes between Uatu and Fury. By the end of the issue you realize that Aaron wasn’t giving us your standard “good vs. evil” story line here. This was about something else entirely, and it was one fun and wild ride.

There has been a consistent level of great art ever since the first issue, but the art team must have been saving the best for last, because this is the best looking issue of the series! There is a blur effect during the Fury/Uatu scenes that is just wonderful. Especially with the energy oozing out of Uatu’s eye socket adding to the effect, as well as making up part of the panel itself. Everything else is just as exciting and carries the story along with the impact the narrative suggests.

There’s still a bit of confusion as to why Midas looked like Thing with Tron light effects coursing through him. Also, his desire for power and what the Watcher possessed wasn’t explained fully, but it does seem that the fallout will deal with that. However, Aaron did set characters on a new path and shake up some relationships between a few more. It’s who he left in possession of  Uatu’s eyes that raises the biggest questions, but was one hell of a way to end the issue! Aaron wasn’t giving us the usual “good vs. evil” story line here, and that difference there makes this a step away from the usual when it comes to these Marvel events. And that is most assuredly a good thing. -IM

Confession: I’m going to be flat honest.

Confession: I have never liked Nick Fury.

Confession: Once it became clear that this story was becoming Nick Fury-centered, I knew I wasn’t going to like the finale.

Confession: Super Secret Space Nick Fury Hero was one the dumbest ideas to come out of The House of Ideas.

Confession: I don’t care to know what The Orb and Bucky, each, will be doing next. And I don’t care about The New Midas Empire.

Confession: I felt this series, which started with a bang (Pun intended? YOU decide!), totally fizzled and failed down the home stretch and finale. I really am at a loss for words on describing how disappointed I am. It’s actually a depressing letdown. I let Marvel fool me. Again. – AF

Uncanny X-Men #25

Okay, so this story doesn’t spin out of the Watcher’s eyeball exploding, but it just kept getting more and more interesting. With an added twist that has me adding this title to my pull list to continue the building excitement and curiosity. Before the X-Men hear the remainder of Professor Xavier’s Last Will and Testament, Cyclops (BOOOOOOOO!) and Wolverine must assemble a team to complete a mission first.

 I’m still not crazy about the art, though. Especially how the shadowed characters looked like they were out of a newspaper strip, and how they lose facial features as I have previously stated.

I can’t believe I’m going to be regularly reading an X-Title again. What is happening?! – AF

We finally get to the point of all of the build up here, and though Professor X’s confession ties into the past two issues, it’s not much of a surprise. Only because over the years we’ve come to know a much different Xavier that has done several questionable acts. Since the reveal isn’t as “jaw dropping” as one would hope, there are still some redeeming parts of the story. There were some great, though brief, character moments that kept this issue from being a total waste as the team’s emotions began to escalate as the confession went on. This caused Scott and Iceman to get into an altercation which led to a rare but nice Iceman moment. Bachelo is back on the art and  delivers a solid effort as this tie-in wraps up.

Again, this had NO REASON to be an Original Sin tie-in, and also reminds us that Charles Xavier isn’t the saint he’s believed to be. – IM
