Original Sin #7

Nick Fury is a man that doesn’t let much get between him and the mission so Jason Aaron makes sure Fury unleashes hell to accomplish his goals here. He’s delivering armored backhands and lasers from everywhere as Aaron drops some heavy plot elements along the way. Finally peeling back some layers and letting us see what transpired days ago in Uatu’s home. Then he closes this issue out with a cliffhanger that we should have seen coming. With the visuals from Deodato moving this story along you won’t be disappointed. He’s been making sure fans receive some quality visual storytelling since the first issue.
Now, all there is to do is to wait to see how Aaron closes this thing out and hope that it’s just as enjoyable as when it started. – IM

Fantastic Four #8

Ben Grimm is now accused of murdering the Puppet Master on top of him finding out that Johnny screwed one of his chances to look normal again. All of which you would assume be the focal point of the story instead we shift over to a retelling of Sue Storm fighting Avengers last issue. More happens in this issue that keeps pulling it further from Original Sin and away from Ben Grimm himself.
Once again I’m left scratching my head when it comes to this title and it’s involvement in Original Sin. Especially since it started off very strong and seemed to have a direction until it was made to fit into the confines of this event. Ben Grimm and Johnny’s conflict here was barely touched on before Ben is thrown into another mess. Which we only get a glimpse of before we see things get even worse for Grimm as he’s jailed with some of the bad guys he’s put there.
Not much I can say about this title other than not to get it for the tie-in aspect of it but if you’re already reading Fantastic Four then this might be worth your time. Also you’ll get some solid artwork from Kirk to look at so there’s that. – IM

Well…we’re here to talk about Original Sin. Other than Ben being mad about what he learned from the eye-bomb explosion, this issue doesn’t even touch the event. All it does is carry the Original Sin banner. So, I will move on from here and not even rate it. Sticking to Original Sin-based thinking, a rating isn’t even applicable. It shouldn’t be carrying the banner. Maybe it was printed on there by mistake. -AF

Amazing Spider-Man #5

Just when I can’t remember why I am reading this title, when it comes out… Oh, yeah! It’s AWESOME! Black Cat is making a power play. Eel and Electro are shocking stuff (no surprises there). Silk, the big secret to tie this into Original Sin, can lay a beat down on the bad guys and she’s…she’s just…did I mention I like this girl?! Anna Maria Marconi, is just so adorable. Especially when she gets so bossy. The ending! Oh, HOLY SH-*Edited for Family Wholesomeness and Integrity. You’re Welcome!!!!!!!!! – AF

Now, as far as tie-ins go, Amazing Spider-Man doesn’t fit into the actual event anymore. Silk has been discovered and everything after that isn’t dealing with much else that’s happening in the main title.
So the story that we’re getting is more of Black Cat’s revenge on Spider-Man from when Doc Ock (while in Peter’s body) humiliated her. That’s the meat of the story here and Slott somehow manages to give this issue a very classic feel. From Jameson doing what he does best to the old school “Amazing Spider-Man” title font used in the speech bubble the issue ended up being pretty fun. I’ll also add that Anna Maria makes any situation she’s in significantly better. Also, you can’t say much about the art of Ramos that hasn’t been said already. He makes sure your eyes enjoy every page from beginning to end.
So, much like the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and Deadpool titles, it’s time to take that banner off of the cover and let these titles go in their own direction. – IM
