Thor & Loki: The Tenth Realm #3

This issue confused the crap outta me. There was a lot of “talking heads” between Loki and the leader of the Angels, about Odin and his history with the Angels of Heaven. In the end? NOT what I was expecting for Thor’s “sister.” I was once digging this series. Now I’m on the fence. I hope Infinite Man can give you more than I. My brain hurts after this one. – AF

There’s nothing I like more than a good throw down between super powered siblings, and the creative team delivers that and more! We get to see Angela recall a few things about herself while beating the hell out of Thor for most of the issue. Aaron and Ewing also flesh out how things became fractured between the Tenth Realm and Odin, and this is where the story becomes very interesting.
Unlike last issue, Bianchi’s artwork here is much stronger and brings a greater dynamic to the fight between Angela and Thor. There’s a greater amount of detail, and even when we’re treated to the various meetings and double crosses during more meetings the quality doesn’t slack.
The only part of this mini-series that is troubling is that most of what’s important just might happen in the fall out and not take place by the last issue. This is what stops it from being better than Hulk vs. Iron Man in my opinion, since it seems more of a self contained story. This story itself just seems too big to contain in such a small amount of issues, but we’ll see what happens and if the pay off is worth it. – IM

Hulk vs. Iron Man #4

So…the build up I was waiting for, the Hulk-sized mudhole stomped in Iron Man’s ass that I’ve ALWAYS wanted to see…well, it turned into a peaceful split. However, it was GREAT storytelling. Kieron Gillen wrote it this time, and from being a co-plotter for the whole series, he didn’t miss a beat! This was probably my favorite tie-in from the Original Sin event. If you missed it, shame on you! Pick it up in Trade Paperback. It’s worth it and could even stand alone. – AF

Well, Hulk vs. Iron Man is the BEST Original Sin tie in mini-series out of the entire batch. Waid and Gillen tweaked the history of two of Marvel’s most prominent characters and made sure that we had fun along the way. Seeing Tony as the drunken bully or being intimidated by Bruce’s intellect isn’t anything new, but this was a very nice take on the inebriated billionaire. The ending wasn’t what we expected, which in itself is refreshing, but it also brought out yet another secret that must be kept. Sometimes it’s a good thing when you have a battle of the wits and intellect when the scenario can be pulled off as well as it was here.
As far as the look of the issue, it was up to Luke Ross to move the narrative along, and he does that nicely. There were a few panels towards the end that weren’t as strong as what he gave earlier in the story, but it’s nothing that takes you out of the story.
Usually there’s one event tie-in mini-series that stands out. Who would have thought it was the one that I was looking forward to the least! – IM
