Another issue of Ghost is out! Let the good times roll! I think I’ve already given away whether or not I liked this comic, but I should break it down for you. What kind of stuff is going on since that tense last issue? Can the team survive with so many chances to die surrounding them and closing in? Let’s find out!
When we last left off, Elisa and Beleth were being confronted by someone from Elisa’s past, Tommy and Sloane were in deadly danger and had no idea, and Vaughn and Caroline learned that Beleth was pulling one over on them. So everyone is in danger, some of them know and some of them don’t even know the half of it. A serial killer is ready to pounce, the past is coming front and center, and everyone needs to be together but they are very much split apart.
The way everything plays out provides some pretty cool action scenes for everyone. There are demon fights, sword attacks, and fire escape gymnastics to name a few. This is, sadly, DeConnick’s last issue with Sebela (she gets a solo goodbye next issue, then it’s Sebela going solo), but as a team effort, this is a great goodbye. It gives a satisfying ending to several plot threads, but still leaves open the grand concerns for further development.
The art is great. Want a ton of demons going all out? That is in here and it’s pretty cool. Such an action heavy issue needs art capable of keeping the momentum going, and we got that plenty. It’s a fast issue, and it feels like we’re constantly moving and battle music could be playing to let you know that the danger is here and tense.
I won’t spoil the ending, but I really enjoyed how several plots got solved. It was a very Twilight Zone twist, very much a monkey’s paw “careful what you wish for” unfolding. Good story, nice way to handle some problems, and a good farewell to this writing team. Thankfully we’ll have one more from DeConnick, and then more from Sebela after that. I’m already looking forward to more Ghost.
