Kara Zor-El was sent from the doomed planet Krypton to Earth. Reunited with her cousin Kal-El, Supergirl has begun adapting to her new home, powers and responsibilities.
Superman/Batman is a series that explores the interesting relationship between the two named characters and introduces Kara Zor-El to the world as the Modern Age Supergirl. After a tumultuous beginning involving a kidnapping and abduction, Supergirl trains with Wonder Woman and reprises her role as Superman’s cousin. In a one-time only event, Michael Turner deviated from Top Cow/Aspen to illustrate quite an exquisite depiction of the quirky blonde. Ladies and gents, I present to you, Supergirl: Michael Turner-based action figure in the flesh.

Paint Job: Supergirl’s colors are bright and vivid, solidly displayed in an eye-pleasing manner. At first glance, the colors seem even and thick, but at closer inspection, there is quite a large amount of bleed along the edges of her costume. The yellow binding on her shirt as well as the yellow belt are inconsistent and show a bit of blue throughout. However, the cape is uniform in color on the front and underneath sides. Her boots also sport a bit of the bleeding issue, with the yellow rims bleeding onto the red. As for her head, the colors are consistent in her hair, but the face is ALL wrong. Coated with fat, big splotches of black, her eyes look alien(er) and unabashedly creepy. Turner’s infamous eyes are lost in translation with this paint job. Missing pupils and defined lashes, the paint job loses most of its quality in the face.
Sculpt: The figure’s high point of sculpting lies in the overlapping layers present in her hair. Each strand is defined and detailed, creating full, sexy hair for Kara. The figure’s costume has some nice folds and shape and is smooth throughout, including the special panties barely visible when you tip her sideways (we know you’re going to look). With that said, the body is horrifically skinny and awkwardly shaped. Her waist stretches on forever and is almost tinier than her man-shaped face.
Durability: Wrapped in plastic: Supergirl is made of thick, sturdy plastic that can sustain heavy wear and damage during your personal renditions of girls gone wild: good vs. evil Supergirl.
Poseability: The Supergirl figure features a limited amount of ten points of articulation. Fairly common among most DC Direct action figures, Supergirl can only be posed in a small number of positions; however, her leg articulation allows for some good balance. Other than just standing there, she can fist-pump and fly. But what other poses are really needed for her anyway?
Accessories: You get a black stand bearing a Batman symbol. That’s it. Hurray!
What’s Awesome: When all the figures in this series are displayed together, the setup looks awesome. Standing tall next to her cousin counterpart, Supergirl’s sexy costume and sassy hair compliment the big boys quite nicely.
What Sucks: The lack of accessories and spacious packaging. It’s so empty-looking, you are forced to open the box immediately, only to be presented with an awkwardly-shaped, extra skinny figure with bug eyes. She’s a teenager; we get it. That doesn’t mean we want our toys looking like one. Also, her fists. Are bigger. Than her face.
Overall: I give this figure a 3/5. Despite being one of the most beautiful heroes in the DC Universe, this Supergirl figure falls a bit short on the quality. The colors are stunning, the details are nice, but I’d rather my Supergirl not look like a bulimic drag queen with a little more than creepy eyes. It’s a shame that Turner’s portrayal of Kara couldn’t be translated onto the figure as it’s so strikingly displayed on the page. It tries though, and if you’re a die-hard Supergirl fan, this will make a solid addition to your collection.

not only the face but the super skinny torso makes her look like spent some time on the pipe. Turner’s style was totally NOT represented well in this figure. Though I wasn’t a fan of how he drew the ladies sometimes this is definitely not a good look. Those eyes are just silly as well but I loved the fist comment Melissa!
