There is just no end to how fun and exciting this series has been, and Jimmie Robinson keeps delivering more quality events in every issue. This latest installment has Enrique on the wrong end of a pointed arrow, as he’s another step behind the manipulations of his former friend, Tyler Shainline. There’s also little time left to find out who poisoned the Nurse, and just as things are going downhill for Enrique, it looks like the individual responsible is someone close to him.
If you’re looking for a witty and sharp all-ages title that doesn’t have to dumb things down to be enjoyable, then Robinson’s Five Weapons is it! He continues to develop this unique cast of characters quite well, exploring beyond their outrageous (though entertaining) visual appearances. This issue in particular finally tells the story of Featherwind and how she received that arrow in her head. Along with the great character building, Robinson manages to throw in several comedic moments both in the narrative and some strictly visual. Both are top notch and not overused to the point of becoming detrimental to the story.
The book is a visual treat and has been since the first issue. Paul Little’s colors add the necessary “pop” to these pages, and there’s always something entertaining in the panels if you pay close attention. From the name of the soil used for the gardening to the character design of the school groundskeeper, things like this just add that much more character to the overall story.
Now, if you haven’t picked up Five Weapons yet then this isn’t one of the comfortable jumping in points of the story. I would seriously suggest starting at the beginning to catch up to here and join in the fun of this series. For those of us who have been here since the beginning, this is just another example of the quality art and writing we’ve come to expect.
