The latest DC hero coming to the small screen is none other than Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lightning! We get our first look at Cress Williams as the title character in costume which stays faithful to its comic book origins while giving us something new and current. So major props to costume designer Laura Jean Shannon.
Executive producer/writer/director Salim Akil had this to say in an earlier interview:
“Resurrecting him at a time in our society when a sense of hope is lacking…BLACK LIGHTNING will be that hope. And in updating the suit, it will signal to a new generation that it’s time to harness and release our power, and become our own Super Heroes.”
Salim Akil had this to say in regards to what Black Lightning meant to him:
“Comics were a great way for me to escape. I was about 13 when BLACK LIGHTNING was created, and finally there was a Black Super Hero that gave a damn about our neighborhood and our lives.”
The series will catch up to Jefferson after he’s already stopped dealing out justice as Black Lightning. However, his daughters are traveling two different paths but each one will lead to him becoming Black Lightning once again!
Black Lightning is already in production in Atlanta so let’s hope the pilot is successful and we’ll get to see another DC legend crossover with the other DC TV heroes!
