Those furry little Fraggles and all their friends are back and better then their first time around! Archaia has unleashed a second mini-series for us with all the Fraggle-goodness we can handle. The art is quality. The writing is solid. The fun is for everyone. Archaia has put together an awesome task force this time around the bend to tackle this timeless Jim Henson property. Highlights of this first issue include stories written by Grace Randolf, who worked on Boom!’s Muppet Peter Pan, and Jake Forbes and Chris Lie (art), both of whom worked on Tokyopop’s Return To Labyrinth. It’s good to see the Fraggle-crew back in action (and a whole lot of fun to see activity pages back in kids’ comics again, like the last mini-series, nice touch Archaia). Out on stands now! Something To Watch: Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies
Originally released in Japan in 1986 as part of Toei Animations annual anime bill (sometimes triple feature, sometimes double), Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies was best remembered here as being edited and used as the pilot episode FUNimation used to sell Dragon Ball to syndicators in 1995, and released on home video by Trimark. For years now, FUNimation has been releasing uncut Dragon Ball here Stateside, but a rights issue has long held up an uncut Japanese version of what started the craze here for many people 15 years ago. Well the wait is over, and at last FUNimation finally gave us what we have been waiting for, and in my opinion it was worth every minute. Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies takes the initial Dragon Ball story arc and retells it in a 55 minute version of how Goku crosses paths with Bulma, Oolong, Yamcha, Puar, and Master Roshi. In it a young girl named Pansy is trying to save her village from being destroyed by the evil King Gurumes, who has turned into a monster that cannot stop eating. She sets off to find Master Roshi, the greatest fighter on Earth, and crosses paths with Goku and Bulma on their quest for the Dragon Balls, but watch out, the evil King is on the look out  for the Dragon Balls as well so he can grant his own wish. Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies hits all the right notes with the original combination of comedy and action that made the original Dragon Ball untouchable by anything else at the time. The animation and story are great, and the original Japanese voice cast if you watch it uncut is amazing. My recommendation for your something to watch this weekend is Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies!
