In a somewhat strange turn of events, this series has been a tad bit more interesting than the main Batman series. That series has been largely focused on Gordon-Batman and his coming into his own as a hero, and unfortunately, it’s been a tad boring. Meanwhile, this series has gone about it in a completely different approach, where the focus is dividing amongst a team of individuals, such as Bullock, Montoya, and of course Gordon-Batman. By splitting the focus of the story between these characters, Brian Buccellato is able to maintain focus on the story, instead of the gimmick of having the oldest cop on the force become Batman. The most peculiar part of all this, is that the two titles are almost completely dominated by cops, whereas normally the Bat Family would be front and center. 4/5
Midnighter #4

In a fantastic showing of action, wit, and charm, this issue manages to recapture the chemistry between Midnighter and Grayson that was ever present in the Grayson series. These two magnificent heroes team up this time, albeit with a little coercion in the form of kidnapping on Midnighter’s part, to retrieve yet another missing artifact from the God Garden. These two make for a remarkably entertaining partnership, especially under Steve Orlando’s pen. Orlando has been doing such a fantastic job with Midnighter so far and he only continues to excel in this issue. This issue is filled with glorious action, witty comebacks, and a dash of sexual innuendo, and it’s all done terrifically. Stephen Mooney and Romulo Fajardo Jr. do a terrific job with the art. The art is appropriately gritty when need be, light when it deems it, and more importantly, considered the protagonists of the story, sexy when it calls for it. The only slight on this series, is the fact that almost every issue has a different artist. Hopefully we get one that sticks for a while. 4/5
