Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul wrap up their first arc on Detective Comics as Batman deals with the growing threat of Icaraus. The first arc of their run ends strong. Much like the rest of their run so far has been, this issue is consistently well written and illustrated. The two have already established that they are more than capable of writing a Batman story geared towards his detective skills, and that definitely shows in this conclusion. The relationship between Batman and Harvey Bullock is an interesting one, and one that will likely be further developed as time passes. If there is any criticism for this issue, it’s that the ending resolved itself a little too plainly. The creative team has shown what they are capable of back during their run on The Flash, and while this latest issue is a solid read, it could have done with a touch more excitement. 4/5
Swamp Thing #34

Bringing Lady Weeds and The Wolf out of the Parliament and into the real world has been nothing but trouble for Swamp Thing. After The Wolf’s repeated failures, Lady Weeds decides to take charge and do things her way, which decidedly has a much higher body count than the Wolf’s way. Regardless of which one is in charge, Swamp Thing manages to stop both of them from causing any more damage. Charles Soule continues to do a spectacular job on this title. The way he has developed Alec Holland’s character is particularly well done. Likewise, he has done an excellent job of developing his secondary characters such as Capucine and Brother Jonah. The way he handles his character development is a major factor of what has kept this series fun and exciting. Javier Pina and Matthew Wilson are absolutely killing it on this series. The two of them, month after month, deliver a gorgeously spectacular book. 4.5/5
