Batman: Detective Comics #48
Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
Artists: Fernando Pasarin, Matt Ryan, and Chris Sotomayor
Cover Artist: Andrew Robinson
Publisher: DC
The Gordon-Batman has been problematic from its very inception, however Peter Tomasi does a solid job of handling the character. Unlike other writers who have written Gordon to be about as athletic and nimble as Bruce was, Tomasi instead has him tripping, complaining about running, clinging on to furniture so he doesn’t collapse, basically he has him showing his age. But also, it’s giving a slight nod to Bruce, who has long filled the role quite effortlessly. With the few issues that Tomasi has penned, it is clear that he intends to focus on the detective aspect of the series as well as Gordon’s qualifications in that realm, which has been working tremendously well for the series. 3.5/5
Midnighter #8
Writer: Steve Orlando
Artists: Stephen Mooney and Romulo Fajardo Jr.
Cover Artists: ACO and Romulo Fajardo Jr.
Publisher: DC
While not bad in any sense, this issue certainly felt a little bit like a filler issue. Much of that feeling is due to the rather misleading cover, which implied a heavier involvement from the super spy organization SPYRAL, which ended up being just a handful of pages at the end as a setup for the next issue. What we did get where nice character moments for Midnighter as he interacts with the outside world, giving us all a glimpse at the man behind the mask. Midnighter a consistently entertaining series that is filled with action and witty humor. His interaction with SPYRAL has been fun to read in the past, though that could be due in part to his and Grayson’s great chemistry, so at the very least his adventure with Huntress is bound to be interesting. 3.5/5

So when Gordon is no longer Batman will DC have him go back to being the 65 yr old looking man who smokes and can’t scale buildings that we’ve come to know and love over the past 40 plus years?? I wonder….
