Aquaman #47

After months of doing things solo, aka the wrong way, Aquaman finally accepts the Justice League’s help to stop the Thule from taking over. The thing about this issue, and it probably wasn’t even done intentionally, is that it spotlights the dilemma that heroes face when choosing to save any group of  people and the risk that puts everyone else in. In this case, Aquaman spent weeks fighting his own people, keeping the Thule invasion a secret in an attempt to save the innocent people living on Thule. However, in the meantime, the Invasion has led to attacks all over his world, causing destruction and probably numerous injuries and possibly even casualties. This entire arc has been some convoluted attempt at making Arthur come off as this benevolent ruler, but instead he comes out looking like a King who can’t solve problems in an effective way. Why not go to the Justice League sooner, why risk all of Earth for the few innocent people on Thule, where are those people even going to go? If anything, this arc just confirms that Arthur might not be meant to rule. 3/5

With the end in sight, this issue is the most action packed issue of the Robin War yet. From the very first page, it’s Robins vs Talons, in an all out brawl for their lives. Tim and Jason continue to work well together, the new Robins are starting to get better at working together, and Gordon is still flailing around like kid in a costume, but at least he gets stuff done this time around. The issue reintroduces Lincoln March, alters the direction of the story, and gives the current Robin a whole new direction. It’s hard to believe that what Damian ends up doing isn’t some big scheme to stop Lincoln, however the way the issue presented the reveal was done particularly well. The issue was fast paced, entertaining, and it did a great job of bringing the event to a near end. The art wasn’t as dynamic as we’re used to on this series, however, it had a nice animated quality to it that added to the fast paced nature of the book. At the end of the day though, this issue does one thing particularly well and that is that it reestablishes just how great at being Robin, Damian is. 4/5
