Welcome to Contest of Champions (CoC) Podcast, Episode #6! CoC is an interactive player vs. player game where your favorite Marvel characters go head to head to answer the eternal question of “who can beat whom in a fight?”
Join Jeff Jackson and Ian Johnson every week as they welcome two team managers who have a stable of five characters each ready to blast, zap, snikt, thwip, and smash their way to be the last one standing! It’s a little bit fan fiction, a little bit debate, a little bit role playing, and a whole bunch of fun! It’s an interactive adventure for the managers, and for the ComicAttack.net community.
This week, we’re joined by Tom McNeely and Dan Briand!
First, we want to remind you, if you are a comic artist, and you would like to provide a sketch or drawing of the characters battling this week, please send a link to your sketch to jeff@comicattack.net. We would love to spotlight your stuff!
Next, on this episode we shared our weekly Fights of the Week! Dan appreciated the awesomeness of Frog-Man barfing on Flag Smasher in Spider-Island: Avengers #1 by Chris Yost & Mike McKone. Tom goes back in time before the DCnU to the last issue of James Robinson’s and Daniel Sampere’s Justice League of America #60 where the JLA takes on various villains like RoboOctoApe and a bunch of other DCU Robots, which actually didn’t get to happen because of the reboot. Jeff is liking the mysterious Morning Glories #12 by Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma, where Casey clocks the new character in the book, Lara the guidance counselor. Ian gushed over the Revengers team in New Avengers Annual #1 by Brian Michael Bendis and Gabriel Dell’Otto, where Wonder Man, Atlas, Ethan Edwards, and a bunch of D-list characters take out the New Avengers.
We also have a CoC FIRST as Ian and Jeff have an interesting ruling on the fight between Quasar & Red Hulk!

About to listen to the podcast but I’m loving the enviroment so far! Won’t have to worry about collateral damage in the least!
Fun fact, I was flying on Sudafed and Budweiser during the taping of this podcast, lol. (My allergies flared up after spending the day doing yard work)
I had failed to mention to not forget that Thor-Girl idolizes.. nay, WORSHIPS The True God of Thunder. I think she would have some reservations about unleashing an attempt at a game winning blow right off the bat.
As mentioned in the Podcast & taking the environment into consideration, I think Thor-Girl will be honored to “spar” with Thor in the opening moments of this fight. I can see Thor grinning whenever Thor-Girl lands a shot on him. “Thou hast proven worthy to fight the God of Thunder, but make no mistake fair maiden, The Mighty Thor yields to no one“
Okay, now that I’ve read Fear Itself #6 I can see this thing going a couple of ways. However I’ll let the managers weigh in on their own characters before I speak on anything yet.
This goes one way: Thor Girl getting pummeled.
I have to agree with Andy here. This is bad for Tarene, real bad. The only chance she has is if she is absolutely ruthless AND Thor patronizes her and lets his guard down. Even if that happened, and she were able to deliver her mightiest blow (I question whether she would unleash on Thor anyway) to an unprepared Thor… I’m not sure it’d be enough.
Anything she could give him, he could give it right back, and then some.
Oh, and Dan, thanks for mentioning that Beta Ray Bill has beaten Thor. I appreciate it!

This little bout was when Thor-Girl was “The Designate” and was much more powerful than her current incarnation.
Thor got knocked his feet by her Hammer, but he admitted that he was holding back.
“By the fury of Odin, mayhap I should not hold back against thee as I have! If thou wert not the key to life beyond calculation, I would be tempted to spank thee!“
Here’s a panel where Korg put the smack down on Tarene when The Warbound went up against the Avengers Initiative kids and laid them all out..

Although, to be fair, I should also point out that this was the Skrull version of Thor-Girl.
(Avengers: The Initiative #4 & #5)
@Eli: No problem man, lol. It’s not like I could hide that fact, it’s pretty common knowledge and I’m sure you would have inevitibly brought it up, especially if these two end up pitted against each other.
Beta Ray Bill was my top ranked Character for the Draft. If you hadn’t picked him, I would have.
Yeah, there are a few matchups that would be very nice to see play out. Thor and Beta Ray Bill is definitely one of them. There’s at least one more that I would really love to see happen.
Boy, quite a landslide in the poll. I’m interested to hear what Infinite Speech has to say about Tarene.
It’s moreso about Thor than her but I don’t want to mention anything that the managers haven’t yet.
