Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 08/19/15

Adventure Time Fionna & Cake Card Wars #2 (Boom!)
NickZ: Cake shows off her impressive skillz at Card Wars! (seriously, I wish this game was real)

Astro City #26 (Vertigo)
Martin: 4/5 stars. 20th anniversary. Busiek, Anderson, & Ross continue delivering some of the best superhero stories being published

The Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: Annie May Parker reminds of Chucky, if he was a good doll. Also, how awesome is one-eyed Hawkeye?

Bizarro 3Bizarro #3 (DC)
Martin: This continues to be a fun all-ages book in both words & art. This issue there’s a great guest-page by Fabio Moon!
NickZ: I wish this book was as much fun as it looks.

Book of Death #2 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Eternal Warrior takes out his former team in style and the big bad is revealed in ANOTHER great issue!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #18 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: Spike is at his best whenever he is opposite Angel, and this issue is no exception!

Dr. Fate #3 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Khalid’s a likeable character, & I love the art style of the book. The last 1/3 of this story was just a bit off.

Green Lantern: Lost Army #3 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Not anyone’s fault, but the story’s relying too heavily on GL lore. Needs to go a different direction

Hip-Hop Family Tree #1 (Fantagraphics)
Infinite Speech: Ed Piskor has been delivering perfection with this series from the writing, art, to the presentation of the book itself!

House of M #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Looks like Dennis Hopeless made another great X-Men Secret Wars book! The Magneto’s family dynamic is so much fun!

Howard the Human #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: This book is written by Skottie Young and has animal versions of Marvel characters! If that isn’t enough to sell it, then I don’t know what is!

Inferno #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: Inferno just gets more insanely awesome with each new issue! I absolutely loved the “I was right” beat down Cyclops gave Colossus.

Invincible #122 (Image)
NickZ: I really missed Mark and Oliver’s relationship. Poor Eve trying to adjust to life on a new planet.

Ivar, Timewalker #8 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: If you’re reading another story about time travel you should stop. Read this one because it’s 100xs better!

Justice League #43 (DC)justice league 3
Infinite Speech: Part 3 of The Darkseid War and it’s infinitely better than DC’s last event. Should have just done this and saved the money.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Using Wonder Woman as the main point-of-view character is perfect for this. Great GL/Batman interactions.
NickZ: The Darkseid War is the best thing I’ve ever read from Geoff Johns.

Kanan The Last Padawan #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Now that Kanan’s past has been told I can’t wait to see what lies ahead in this series.
NickZ: I really loved that this issue addressed how the Clone Troopers could so easily turn on their Jedi friends in Revenge of the Sith.

Loki Agent of Asgard #17 (Marvel)
NickZ: Al Ewing and Lee Garbett really did an amazing job with this series. I am sad to see it end but I am satisfied with the way they did it.

Martian Manhunter #3 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. The pace of this story has been very fast, but that’s a good thing. So much happens & it’s all engaging.

Oddly Normal #9 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Issue after issue Frampton hits me squarely in the feels. Pick this up for a young reader or yourself!
NickZ: Otis Frampton turned the cuteness level to 11 with introduction of Oopie!

Postal #6 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: This has all the makings of a fantastic thriller in any storytelling medium thanks to the skillful creative team!
NickZ: We get a good look into the mind of the Mayor and learn about some of the things that she fears and things that motivate her.

Rat Queens #11 (Image)
Infinite Speech: So glad the girls are back and looking great in the hands of Tess Fowler and Tamra Bonvillain. Oh, and “Fold like a Gary” needs to be a thing.

Robin Son of Batman #3 (DC)robin do b3
Arnab: Nobody II reminds me of Catgirl, but in a way that makes me miss Catgirl and dislike Nobody II.
Infinite Speech: That cliffhanger is all kinds of bad news for Damian.
Martin: 3/5 stars. When given a chance, Gleason has a great handle on Damian. This issue isn’t a good example, though.
NickZ: Damian, I’m happy for you, and imma let you finish but Tim Drake had the best Robin solo comic book series ever!

Runaways #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: Noelle Stevenson writes the best Valeria Richards!
Infinite Speech: Somehow this needs to keep going post Secret Wars with Noelle at the helm!

Secret Wars Journal #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: Sina Grace writes a story where Psylocke is a badass and love conquers all! There is also a good Punisher and Iron First story too!

Secret Wars: Secret Love #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: A great issue but Danny tying Bantu knots in Misty’s hair screams “relationship goals” right there! Take notes fellas!

Sensation Comics #13 (DC)
NickZ: This is the worst depiction of Wonder Woman that I have seen in a very long time!

Silk #6 (Marvel)
NickZ: Silk and Black Cat finally go at it and it’s not pretty!

Spider-Verse #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: There are plenty of twists, starting with the revelation about Peter Parker and the introduction of Venom. Also, they have a buffet!

Star Wars #8 (Marvel)
NickZ: Sana Solo is even more trouble than her “husband”.

Superman Wonder Woman #20 (DC)
NickZ: Lois Lane wrapped in the Lasso of Truth, being questioned by Wonder Woman about Superman is a recipe for disaster!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #49 (IDW)
Arnab: Hot damn diggity, things are not going well for team Cowabunga.
Infinite Speech: One more issue to go till the big 50 and things aren’t looking good for the Turtles.

Trees #12 (Image)
NickZ: Many things are developing this issue and that ending doesn’t look like a good sign. How great is Jason Howard’s art tho? MAN!

Wonder Woman #43 (DC)
NickZ: Meredith Finch is writing one hell of a good story arc!

X-Tinction Agenda #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: X-Men battle X-Men while the true villain makes his move! Does anything good ever happen in Genosha?
