Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 06/22/16

Action Comics #958 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. They are certainly living up to the “action” part of the name. Lots of questions raised, none answered.
NickZ: The idea of Superman and SuperLex fighting Doomsday while Clark Kent witnesses from below is bananas!

Aquaman #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Lots of potential here, & the story makes Aquaman an intriguing character, but some characters are a bit “off.”

bitch planet 8Bitch Planet #8 (Image)
Infinite Speech: DeConnick and De Landro are back and hitting harder than ever in this series!

Captain America: Sam Wilson #10 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Spencer turned my cynicism into pure enjoyment for this issue. A great way to send off James Rhodes right here!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #28 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: There was such an easy way to go with this story but I’m glad Christos Gage and Rebekah Isaacs didn’t take it.

Civil War II: Choosing Sides #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Give Brandon Easton a Night Thrasher or New Warriors series NOW Marvel!

Cyborg #12 (DC)
Infinite Speech: A solid story here but a little too predictable towards the end.
Martin: 3/5 stars. Good art and an interesting enough one-off story, but a not really a good ending for a series finale.

gambit deadpool 1Deadpool v Gambit #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Spidey vs Daredevil! Shirtless Gambit vs Shirtless Deadpool! Hamilton references! This one has something for everyone!

Detective Comics #935 (DC)
Arnab: At first I was like, why is Tim a “student”, but the fact that he’s got an override code kinda makes it all worth it. Plus Tim and Bruce are finally acting normal.
Infinite Speech: I’m mainly reading this because Cassie is in it but it’s actually a decent title so far.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. I like how the “Detective” angle is being explored via various characters having secrets. Great art.
NickZ: I was on the fence about this book but seeing Tim and Bruce reestablishing their relationship is worth sticking around for.

Divinity II #3 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Myshka is NOT playing with you people and has remade things in her image. I don’t see a happy ending coming with this one!

Doctor Strange #9 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse for Strange and his crew…it does. Hope the movie is just as good.
NickZ: This is the most epic Doctor Strange story that I’ve ever read! I CANNOT wait to see how it ends!

Flash #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: I’m tired of the #1s. I’m tired of the Flash origin recaps. However this one throws in the beginnings of a new character in a decent issue.
Arnab: Do we really need a new speedster? Wally literally just returned and little Wally just found out he has powers.
Martin: 4/5 stars. I like the energy-charged art, and the story is good as an intro to the character, especially for new readers.

Justice League #52 (DC)
Infinite Speech: So…ummm…I should have quit after Darkseid War ended.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. An interesting look into Lex Luthor as a “Superman” but not the ending to the New 52 JL I was hoping for.
NickZ: Even when he is “trying” to be good, Lex Luthor is still a c***.

power rangers 4 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #4 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Each issue has hit harder than the last and established the Rangers for this new era!

Mighty Thor #8 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The bad guys sequence was the hightlight and now Sebastian Shaw looks like an extra from Hamilton.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #8 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Montclare and Reeder are writing the perfect new series for young readers!

Nighthawk #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Walker, Villalobos, and Bonvillain kick out another bone breaking issue that should be on your pull list!

Over the Garden Wall #3 (Boom!)
NickZ: A perfect mix of fun and heartfelt goodness. I highly recommend it for anyone with little ones or anyone who was a fan of the show.

Power Man & Iron Fist #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: David Walker shows off his comedy skill in this issue! I Laughed so hard I had to read it a couple of times and will most likely read it again!

Rai #14 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Once again another stellar chapter in Rai’s saga!

Robin Son of Batman #13 (DC)robin 13
Arnab: This series went from being a bit dark to becoming a lighter, more fun series, which was great because it is Robin after all.
NickZ: Overall this ended up being a pretty good series that explored the complex motivations of Damian Wayne.

Rocket Raccoon and Groot #6 (Marvel)
NickZ: Groot and Rocket have a contest of champions so epic it literally ends a thousand year war!

Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye #54 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Once the physical combat starts it’s easy to get lost in who is doing what here. But seeing Megatron as an Autobot is still weird to me.

The Ultimates #8 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Great issue that fills in the blanks of the team’s formation and Civil War II. Thanos is also looking to increase his body count after killing War Machine!

The Uncanny Avengers #10 (Marvel)
NickZ: As interesting as this Ultron/Pym story maybe, I can’t get over how the combination of characters on this team makes no sense.

Wonder Woman #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The art & character designs are great, especially the last page, and the story is turning me into a WW reader.
NickZ: Wonder Woman was one of the few good books that came out of the New 52, too bad it didn’t fair so well after Rebirth!
