Welcome to Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews! Here you can find out what we at ComicAttack.net thought of this past week’s new books in 140 characters or less! Make sure to come back each week to see what we have to say about the latest comics!
Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis #3 (Marvel)
Andy: This series is growing on me. I like the throw back to Ghost Boxes and bringing this Jaspers guy back into continuity.
Jeff: Warren Ellis has been digging through some old back issues of Excalibur to pull this story out.
Avengers #5 (Marvel)
Andy: Thor vs. Galactus. ‘Nuff said.
Avengers Academy #4
Andy: A great series with a very New X-Men vibe to it. Can’t wait to see how these kids develop down the line.
Batman Streets of Gotham #16 (DC)
Andy: Why in the hell would and of the super hero community allow Thomas Elliot, posing as Bruce Wayne, to free convicted criminals? And I knew Two Face wasn’t dead. Lame.
Black Widow #6 (Marvel)
Andy: A new creative team = not the same book…at all. I’ll give it a shot, but I don’t like seeing Widow not be in control of a situation.
Darkwing Duck (BOOM!)
Andy: Keen gear!
Dynamo 5: Sins of the Father #4 (Image)
Matt: Way too much “You’re kids, and you don’t know what you’re doing” for my tastes. Pity the series got canceled and needed to make a mini.
Elephantmen #27 (Image)
Andy: Wow, things are getting crazy in this book. Love the art and the bloody violence!
Fables #98 (Vertigo)
Andy: Amazing! This is the Fables I’ve been longing for since The Great Fables Crossover ended almost 2 years ago.
Dale: Great story as Rose is awake and taking back control of the farm, and putting Geppetto back in his place. Looking forward to #100.
Fantastic Four #583 (Marvel)
Andy: Woah, woah, and more woah. Valeria is flippin’ awesome. What a great character!
Flash #5 (DC)
Andy: Still not into this series. Why in the world would Flash not be the one to go protect his wife? I mean come on!
Matt: I really wish this “Flash is a murderer! Get him!” storyline would wrap up, already. Get ready for a “trial” issue with #6.
G.I. Combat Featuring Haunted Tank (DC)
Andy: Confederate Civil War General J.E.B. Stuart gives combat advice to a tank driver during WWII. One for the military buffs!
G.I. Joe: Origins #19 (IDW)
Andy: Here’s the only way a silent issue of GI Joe could work: if it stars Snake Eyes.
Green Lantern Corps #52 (DC)
Andy: A decent closing to Bedard’s opening arc on the title. Looking forward to what he has in store for us next!
Matt: Props to Bedard for a satisfying story arc finish, along with taking care of Cyborg Superman. Annoying villain that I’ve never liked.
Hack/Slash: My First Maniac #4 (Image)
Andy: A bloody good time with plenty of “fan service” shots. The future looks bright for this one!
Hulk #25 (Marvel)
Andy: Wow, take Jeph Loeb off this book and it immediately gets better. Jeff Parker can make anything cool, even Red Hulk!
Justice League of America #49 (DC)
Andy: All signs point to pointless. What the heck is going on with this title?
Dale: Strictly a filler issue and as such pretty much forgetable.
Nick: Donna taking on the Teen Titans was a fun bit even if it was contrived and unoriginal.
Justice League: Generation Lost #10 (DC)
Andy: When are Fire and Ice going to announce their love already? It’s ok ladies, we can handle it.
Matt: I don’t know why DC writers have such an obsession with moving the universe’s history towards “Kingdom Come”. Leave it to Mark Waid, please.
Nick: Kingdom Come! Metal Men! This series just gets better and better.
Kato Origins: Way of the Ninja #4 (Dynamite)
Dale: Good solo Kato story, I’m really enjoying the view of WWII America from an Asian perspective.
Legion of Superheroes #5 (DC)
Dale: Earthman comes to the rescue, big surprise! I’m ready to end the Earthman centric issues for awhile, but looking at the last page I’m not holding my breath.
Matt: I have no idea how they did it, but Levitz actually made me like Earth-man. This Green Lantern sideplot is kind of lame, though.
Mindfield #3 (Aspen)
Andy: The best issue of the series so far! Lots of action. Best read when tripping balls.
Nemesis #3 (Icon)
Andy: Holy shit balls Batman! Hide your kids, hide your wife, cuz Nemesis is rapin’ everybody out here!
Jeff: He impregnated Morrow’s daughter with Morrow’s gay son’s sperm and then rigged her uterus so that she can’t abort? That’s just so effed up!
Pilot Season: 39 Minutes #1 (Top Cow)
Andy: So far I want this Pilot Season book to win. Good stuff with great potential.
Power Girl #16 (DC)
Andy: Winick is finding his own voice with this series while keeping trace elements of the Conner/Palmiotti run. The meter is slowly, but surely, ticking towards the likable side.
Rombies #0 (Gestalt)
Decapitated Dan: Good ol’ fashioned Zombies meets Romans fun! A LION ZOMBIE!!!!
Secret Avengers #5 (Marvel)
Andy: The best issue of this series so far as it’s more espionage/secret ops based. I dig the new art team, too.
Matt: Espionage? Body doubles? Evil clones? Really, after a lacklustre first arc, I want to see more Moon Knight and Antman, not S.H.I.E.L.D.
Shadowland: Daughters of the Shadow #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Not nearly as good as the first issue, but these ladies are smokin’!
Shadowland: Moon Knight #2 (Marvel)
Andy: My least favorite Shadowland tie-in bar none…what does this have to do with Shadowland anyway?
Supergirl #56 (DC)
Andy: Did not like this issue one bit. Bizarro Supergirl can just go back to stupid land and stay there.
Superman/Batman #76 (DC)
Nick: This story would have been a great……if it came out MONTHS ago!
Thor #615 (Marvel)
Andy: The cotton candy art is different, but cool. Loved seeing those blue smurf things get hacked to bits. Stupid smurf things.
Titans #27 (DC)
Andy: Arsenal always needs a fix now, huh? Ok, and I always hope this series is going to get better…
Tracker #5 (Top Cow)
Andy: A cool ending to the series. Horror fans will dig it!
Ultimate Comics Mystery #3 (Marvel)
Andy: Three words: Ultimate Layla Miller.
Ultimate Comics Spider-man #14 (Marvel)
Andy: Yes! Iceman finally gets some awesome moments!! Loving this “Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends” theme!
Decapitated Dan: Don’t mess with the Fire & Ice combo! And I can’t wait to see what comes of that ending.
Uncanny X-Men #528 (Marvel)
Andy: WTF! A NEW mutant with ice powers!? Newsflash: ICEMAN EXISTS!!!
Decapitated Dan: What the hell! We have Iceman and now Icekid? At least I saw Iceman, but then BOOM! Right back to crap.
Jeff: How many more issues before Fraction & Portacio are done?
Nick: All and all a pretty good issue with lots going on. I can’t wait to see what happens with Sebastian Shaw.
Velocity #2 (Top Cow)
Andy: I could look at Kenneth Rocafort’s art all day long. I don’t even care about the story the art is so awesome.
Walking Dead #77 (Image)
Andy: Holy hell, things are about to get ugly…
Jeff: How many of you cheered audibly when Douglas let Rick shoot Pete?
Nick: I don’t like Carl, he is a little jerk. It looks like we are headed for another throw down, maybe he won’t survive it.
X-Campus #4 (Marvel)
Andy: A decent series overall, but this issue had too much crammed into it, cheapening the ending.
