Welcome to Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews! Here you can find out what we at ComicAttack.net thought of this past week’s new books in 140 characters or less! Make sure to come back each week to see what we have to say about the latest comics!
American Vampire #7 (Vertigo)
Andy: This new direction is way cool, as Snyder is revealing a much larger picture to his story.
Arnab: Dead bodies are popping up left and right and it seems Skinner Sweet’s got immunity. Sadly, Pearl doesn’t seem to have the same luck.
Nick I: The city of Sin is the perfect landscape for vampires. I love the mixture of history and detective fiction.
Baltimore the Plague Ships #3 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Sick and tired of sparkly vampires? Read this story!
Batman: Hidden Treasures #1 (DC)
Andy: It was ok for the nostalgia factor, but $5 was a bit steep. Only for the hardcore Bat fans.
Aron: Pretty. Damn. Cool. Berni Wrightson is the man!
Batman Odyssey #4 (DC)
Andy: This book is so weird…and I’m totally into it!
The Boys #47 (Dynamite)
Andy: Butcher’s fortune cookie: “You are going to have some new clothes.” HAH!
Nick I: For a book known for its excessive lewdness, the moments with Hughie and Annie are heartbreaking.
Decapitated Dan: Well it’s official. After 47 issues, of which at least the last 20 I tried on, I have lost interest. It’s such a shame.
Brightest Day #11 (DC)
Andy: HOLY SHIT! How’s that for a two page spread!?
Arnab: Absolutely fantastic issue. Does well to integrate a good story with great art and does it with great pacing.
NickZ: Things are happening now! I hope we get back to some of the other characters and get some answers.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer #37 (Dark Horse)
Nick I: Spike explains what’s going, and Buffy has sexy thoughts about him. Is it just me or is the Buffy series always better when Spike is around?
NickZ: Buffy’s thoughts getting all “cinemax” about Spike is classic Whedon, right there!.
Chaos War #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Great art, fun dialogue = Hercules is back! Plus, he punched Balder in the face!
Aron: More dead heroes that we all know aren’t really dead and I don’t know if this is awesome enough to read #2 or not. But Hercules was a badass!
Nick I: BEWARE THE CHAOS KING!!! I’m onboard, simply because I love Herc & Cho, and Van Lente & Pak.
Charmed #3 (Zenescope)
NickZ: Things are taking shape for this book. I hope they do something original with the story because the “big bad” is as far from original as you can get.
Deadpool Max #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Nope, not for me. It didn’t even star Deadpool. Buy Deadpool Pulp #1 + #2 instead.
Aron: A four-dollar excuse to say a bunch of cusswords a lot. Pass.
Nick I: The MAX version of Bob, Deadpool’s sidekick, definitely has it worse than 616 Bob. Poor Bob.
NickZ: Some of this story was so ridiculous but awesome! A max series is just what a character like Deadpool was made for.
Deadpool Pulp #2 (Marvel)
Andy: This book rocks. It may be my favorite ‘Pool title on the shelves. Who knew a serious take on the character, set in a pulpy noir style, could be so good?
Dethklok #1 (Dark Horse)
Decapitated Dan: Story was spot on to the show, but I want to hear the music, not read the lyrics. So it works, but eh…
G.I. Joe #23 (IDW)
Andy: I like seeing Helix incorporated into the main Joe book, and seeing Storm Shadow was exciting, but other than that, it feels like nothing significant is happening.
House of Mystery #30 (Vertigo)
Aron: Happy toilet paper killed the monster and saved the day. The gay goblin becomes king (or should we call him queen?). Why aren’t you reading this?
Nick I: Fig finds out she has to power to clean some shit up! And gay Goblins can kick ass.
iZombie #6 (Vertigo)
Aron: I really hate to say this, but this issue was kinda…dumb. I hope it hasn’t completely lost it’s awesomeness.
Jeff: “Spot”light issue. Literally.
Klaws of the Panther #1 (Marvel)
Andy: The Klaw is out to destroy all the vibranium in the Savage Land, so Shuri and Shanna kick some ass! A fun read for sure.
Madame Xanadu #27 (Vertigo)
Nick I: Warhol, Capote, The Velvet Underground, The Doors. 60s references galore!
Orc Stain #5 (Image)
Decapitated Dan: How is no one else talking about how great this book is? READ THIS BOOK PEOPLE!
Red Hood the Lost Days #5 (DC)
Andy: Judd Winick and Jeremy Haun are knocking this one out of the park. In recent history, Jason Todd has never been more interesting.
Arnab: This issue does a great job of portraying every aspect of Jason Todd.
NickZ: I found this issue kinda boring but i am sure this story will have a great finish.
Ryder on the Storm #1 (Radical)
Decapitated Dan: What is this? Another awesome story from Radical? How can you all pass on reading these? Loving it so far.
Scalped #41 (Vertigo)
Andy: Goddamn you Jason Aaron. You’re freaking brilliant. READ THIS SERIES.
Nick I: I think for every issue of Scalped, I’ll just write: Best Ongoing Series.
Shadowland: Spider-Man #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Eh, it was ok, but unless you’re a big Spidey or Shang-Chi fan, skip it.
S.H.I.E.L.D. #4 (Marvel)
Andy: Things are happening, and I know they are, but I can’t tell exactly what. Can’t wait to read this whole arc in one go once it’s completed.
Arnab: An overall exciting story with beautiful art. Best part of the issue was DaVinci at the sun.
Nick I: I think for every issue of SHIELD, I’ll just write: Best Marvel Series. Da Vinci may be the best Marvel Superhero ever.
Star Wars: The Old Republic #4
Andy: This artist is MUCH better than the guy who drew the previous 3 issues, but the story…I’m just not into it.
Strange Science Fantasy #4 (IDW)
Andy: My favorite issue of the series so far. Answers the question of where mankind really comes from.
Nick I: “Man is big enough to kill himself – no gods need apply…But thanks, anyway.” The most innovative book in the stands.
Superman: The Last Family of Krypton #3 (DC)
Andy: I’ll say it: I liked this Elseworlds better than Red Son! “The son becomes the father…and the father becomes the son.” Powerful stuff.
NickZ: A good Elseworld Supes story. If you haven’t picked up this book yet, get the trade when it comes out.
Sweet Tooth #14 (Vertigo)
Andy: Another great issue, as expected. Can’t wait to see Jepperd cut loose.
Aron: This series is awesome. It is now like a cross between The Walking Dead and Stand by Me…with animal kids. It’s like McDonald’s. I’m lovin’ it.
Thor for Asgard #3 (Marvel)
Andy: Great art keeps me invested because the story is just crawling along.
Ultimate Comics Thor #1 (Marvel)
Andy: As usual, Jonathan Hickman doesn’t disappoint. The Loki characterization is way rad.
Nick I: If Hickman can make Da Vinci a superhero, it’s no surprise he is capable of writing Thor so perfectly. Plus, Nazi Frost Giants.
Uncanny X-Force #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Holy balls I need a new pair of underwear. AWESOME!
Arnab: Great start to the series. The cast is great and they’ve got the perfect villain to start things off.
Aron: This has potential to reek of awesomeness.
Jeff: Great first issue! Cancel all the Deadpool books and focus on him here.
Nick I: Jerome Opena, you can draw action sequences like a m*therf’er. And any book with Fantomex (Morrison or no), is fine by me.
NickZ: This booked kicked major ass even without Kyle and Yost behind it!
Unknown Soldier #24 (Vertigo)
Aron: Kinda weird. Didn’t know this was “Chapter 3”. Liked the series at the beginning but can’t stick around for the finale. Sorry.
Wetworks: Mutations #1 (Wildstorm)
Decapitated Dan: Not that I expected it to be great but, come on can we at least try to make it like the older stories. Disappointing.
Wolverine #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Wow, I never thought I’d say this but…I’m buying a Wolverine series.
Jeff: The only way to really deconstruct Wolverine is to send him to hell. And it’s awesome!
Nick I: If you were confused by the 1st issue, this is def. the issue where things start to make sense. And I can’t wait for more Ghost Riders!
NickZ: This issue was much better than the first and I am very excited to see where Amicko’s Story is going.
Young Allies #5 (Marvel)
Jeff: This series has been a surprise! I loved the ending!
