Batman: Secret Files #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: These are the Batman stories that show how great of a character he really is.
Martin: Overall, art-wise, this is a great collection of 5 anthology stories. The stories themselves range from okay to really good. My favorite was the last story with Batman & Detective Chimp.
Black Panther #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Leave it to Nakia to talk some sense into T’Challa once again.
Extermination #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I might not like the guy but that was just cold! Ahab is going to bring the wrath of the X-Men on his head and by that I mean Jean is going to kick his ass!
Faith: Dreamside #2 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Jody Hourser and MJ Kim are killing it on this series! Now I need the third issue to come out tomorrow, please!
Green Lantern/Huckleberry Hound Special #1 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. As a story about John Stewart and an examination of racial politics in early 1970’s America, this story succeeds on all fronts. However, as a Hanna-Barbera cross-over co-starring Huckleberry Hound, it misses the mark.
Heroes in Crisis #2 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Barry is beating the brakes off of Booster Gold and Batman is getting owned by Harley Quinn! But the shining moment was Harley’s statements on page 20. King and Mann outdid themselves with that sequence!
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Negatives: I’m just not enjoying this story so far, & it’s doing little to want to make me keep reading. I also don’t buy that Harley can take on the entire Trinity & get away so easily. Positives: The character explorations are intriguing.
Justice League/Aquaman: Drowned Earth #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Black Manta just leveled up at the cost of Aquaman and a good day for the Legion of Doom is a bad day for the rest of the world!
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Another DC “event” book, and while it hasn’t quite hit the level of ‘Witching Hour” yet, it’s still an intriguing story with a great premise and some strong character work. The weakest part are the villains so far.
Justice League Dark / Wonder Woman: The Witching Hour #1 (DC)
Martin: 5/5 stars. Perfect ending to an “event” book that actually has stakes, makes changes to the status quo that look to be sticking, explores heroes and villains with depth, and provides an unexpected ending that sets up future stories.
Superman/Top Cat Special #1 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. A definitely un-subtle commentary on Amazon, Whole Foods, and “super-foods,” starring Top Cat, Superman, a sentient alien plant-based tentacle creature, and a Greek villain who wears a toga, just cuz. At least, I think that’s what happened.
Terrifics Annual #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Three very different, very creative stories by three talented creative teams, none of which is the main team for this series. I normally don’t like “villain background” stories, but the Java story was clever and provides some depth to the character
Wayward #30 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Thirty issues of amazing storytelling from a creative team that deserves all the praise! Sad to see it end but so glad I picked up the first issue!
West Coast Avengers #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: If you feel like Kate’s statements are about you and you’re mad then you totally missed the point. This creative team is on a roll with this series!
