Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 08/29/18

Bone Parish #2 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: Not what I expected but I’m lovin’ this series!

Catwoman / Tweety & Sylvester #1 (DC)
Martin:
4/5 stars. This cross-over incorporates the madcap “everything goes” style of Looney Tunes into the main story, which eventually involves every cat- & bird-themed character in the DC Universe. Fun, without the need for being socially conscious.

Extermination #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Jean chose the right team to leave with because she knows X-Force is about to bring the hurt to whoever is coming!

Harbinger Wars II #4 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: This is some excellent character growth for Livewire and it’s just dark. Can’t wait to see how the fallout affects her and X-O Manowar.

Harley Quinn/ Gossamer #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. This almost seems like a “regular” Harley Quinn comic, despite the Looney Tunes cross-over, which is natural when considering the creative team of Conner & Palmiotti. An enjoyable tale that draws upon the Looney Tunes sense of crazy fun.

Isola #5 (Image)
Infinite Speech: A wonderful story and I’m glad to see more people of color in the fantasy genre done this well!
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. A end of the first arc continues to feature lush artwork and creative world-building. The relationship between the characters, particularly Rook, Olwyn, and Pring, is very compelling.

Lex Luthor / Porky Pig #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Great artwork, and a fun cartoon-like back-up story, but the main story is a bit too dark and socially aware for a cross-over like this. Read my full review here!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Shattered Grid #1 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: That was a great ending and now a new era of the Rangers begins!

Silencer Annual #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Silencer’s first meeting with Batman is complicated and a great one-shot story for this annual.

Venom: First Host #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Okay that was a great surprise because the first host isn’t who you thought it was!

Wayward #28 (Image)
Infinite Speech: This creative team has been on fire for 28 consecutive issues and I can’t wait to see how this all ends!

Web of Venom: Ve’Nam #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: When Nick Fury shows up just know that plenty of lies are about to be told.

X-Men: Grand Design: Second Genesis #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Ed Piskor is killing it and if you’re a fan of the X-Men this NEEDS to be in your collection!
