Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 08/01/18

Adventures of the Super Sons #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. The continuation of 1 of my fave DC Rebirth titles, this sets up a 12-issue mini-series. There are a few missteps in Damian’s characterization, but overall it’s a good all-ages title. You can check out my full review here!
NickZ: So glad to have these kids back in action and in Tomasi’s capable hands!
Infinite Speech: Picked this up because I missed out on the first round and I don’t plan on making that mistake again!

Animosity #15 (Aftershock)
Infinite Speech: This was just one depressing issue but for all the right reasons since Bennett knows how to hit you square in the feels.

Astonishing X-Men #14 (Marvel)
NickZ: I’m actually enjoying Havok’s unauthorized rag tag group of “X-Men”.
Infinite Speech: I tried but couldn’t get too far into the story because of the art. So I took it back and switched it for something else.

Batman #52 (DC)
Infinite Speech: It’s 12 Angry Men but with Bruce attempting to atone for maybe going too far as Batman. Tom King is showing the humanity and cracks of Batman in a great way here.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. I was a little unhappy with how “forced” the previous issue was with putting Bruce onto a jury in a trial of Mr. Freeze. However, in this issue, the interactions between Bruce and the jury as some of King’s best writing in this run to date.
NickZ: It’s Bruce Wayne vs the infallible myth of the Batman!

Captain America #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Coates and Yu are on their way to redeeming Cap and the cliffhanger has me wanting issue 3 right now! You can check the full review here!

Deadpool #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: You just know Deadpool’s deceptions are going to come back to bite him in the a** eventually.

Deathstroke #34 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Wintergreen and Alfred are the puppet masters here and is Deathstroke really not able to put together who Batman really is?
NickZ: The fight that this story has been building toward finally happens, Batman vs Deathstroke! ‘Nuff Said!

Go Go Power Rangers #12 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: WHAAATT??? YES!! I hops this means what I think it means!

Green Arrow #43 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Nice art with a lot of good action scenes, but the interactions between Ollie & Roy are not consistent with the previous run. The villain is, once again, somebody who wants to call Green Arrow to answer for his “crimes” in the public media. Boring.

Green Lanterns #52 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. For me, this title has always been best when it’s highlighting the difficult partner-relationship between Simon & Jessica. That said, while the current arc is focusing on the GL Corps as a whole, I’m very intrigued by what’s happening to the rings.

Hunt For Wolverine Weapon Lost #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: While they didn’t find Wolverine per say, the did uncover some unpleasant information about him.

Infinity Wars #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Another mainstream Marvel character bites the dust and you won’t believe who delivers the killing blow!

Justice League #5 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Lex deserves a standing ovation for pulling this off!
Martin: 4/5 stars. Scott Snyder steps aside for James Tynion IV to provide background on how the Legion of Doom came together. I’m liking this run on Justice League because it shows them dealing with “regular” super villains instead of another universe-ending event.
NickZ: We gain new insight into the past few issue in a behind the scenes story from the villains perspective.

Mister Miracle #10 (DC)
Martin: 5/5. My comic of the week. The character interactions between Scott and Barda will resonate with any parent, with love, resentfulness, fear, tragedy, and hope. A fun scene with Scott, Ted Kord, and Booster Gold adds a brief respite of levity. Highly recommended.
NickZ: Scott and Barda struggle coming to a decision in regards to Darkseid’s cruel offer.

Nightwing #47 (DC)
NickZ: This fight with technology bit has been going on a bit too long for my taste.

Noble #10 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: Good to see the series is back with more David Powell being a superhero and can’t wait to see more! Check the full review here!

Paper Girls #23 (Image)
NickZ: The girls are close to getting answers and cures in the this future time but I doubt things will be that easy.

The Raid #1 (Titan)
Infinite Speech: Expanding on the movies was a great idea but is it bad that I want this on the screen?

Seven to Eternity #10 (Image)
NickZ: Seven to Eternity is back and Remender is really flipping the script trying to make the Mud King into a sympathetic character.

Transformers: Unicron #3 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: This story has been a surprise hit with me and now I want to see this on the big screen!

The Walking Dead #182 (Image)
NickZ: While the Governor is impressed by the various places under Rick’s leadership, their ideological differences seem to be the one thing they won’t be able to agree upon.

Weapon X #21 (Marvel)
NickZ: Can a team up straight up villains actually succeed in working together toward some kind of good? I guess we are about to find out.

X-Men Gold #33 (Marvel)
NickZ: The recent developments with Storm are finally explained while she goes home and uncovers even more shocking revelations.

X-Men Gold Annual #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: Did I really just spend 5 bucks on a story about young Kitty in summer camp? I mean the story wasn’t bad, but it certainly wasn’t worth 5 bucks and it didn’t have anything to do with anything currently happening.
