Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 06/14/17

Accell  #1 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech:
Accell has familiar elements but remains it’s own and is yet another hit from Lion Forge!

Action Comics #979 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Really great art, and an okay continuation of the Superman Revenge Squad story. I’d like a bit more action.

All-New Wolverine #21 (Marvel)
NickZ: All of the Wolverines plus Deadpool go on a mass healing spree and it is “astonishing”!

American Gods #4 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech:
Shadow is going to need to start asking questions about all of this madness soon.

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #11 (DC)
NickZ: Gus finally reveals his secret and after many twists and turns, the ending will excite you!

Black Panther & the Crew #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
T’Challa sings, flirts with Storm, and things blow up! Marvel cancelled this series way too soon.

Copperhead #14 (Image)
NickZ: Clara has never caught a break since becoming the sheriff, nevertheless she persists because that’s what badass women do!

Dark Days the Forge #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: I had a good time with this one and a little more hyped for Metal now.
Martin: 5/5 stars. I didn’t expect to like this 1-off prequel so much. Tons of great callbacks to New 52 Bats, Crisis, etc.
NickZ: This is a lot to process but I am now very excited for Batman Metal! What an excellent way to kick of this big summer event!

Defenders #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Dave Marquez and Justin Ponsor are one hell of an art team and the shining stars of this issue!

Detective #958 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. This is really more of a “team book” than “detective stories” but it is really working so far.

Flash #24 (DC)
Infinite Speech:
So it’s just a really bad month to be a Kid Flash isn’t it. Williamson has no chill this issue
Martin: 4/5 stars. Top-notch art as usual for this team, and it’s fun to see a Barry/Hal team-up. Reminds me of old school team-ups.

Gotham Academy Second Semester #10 (DC)
NickZ: Kyle proves he is the best boyfriend ever and Maps proves why she should totally be the next Robin!

Green Valley #9 (Image)
NickZ: An amazing sci-fi adventure with tons of action and heart! If you missed it, I highly recommend you pick up the trade!

Justice League of America #8 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Not having fun with this series and it’s gone on eight issues too long.
Martin: 3/5 stars. There’s nothing really “wrong” with this issue, but it certainly didn’t do much for me. Just “meh.”
NickZ: With such a diverse group of individuals, this book could be so amazing if the stories were character driven.

Legion of Superheroes/Bugs Bunny #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars A lot of fun. You can’t think about it too much. LoSH/Bugs doesn’t make sense, but who cares?

Martian Manhunter/Marvin the Marvin #1
Martin: 4/5 stars. The art really shines, but also Marvin’s characterization has more depth than expected.

Old Man Logan #25 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Maestro vs Old Man Logan and it’s drawn by Mike Deodato? I am definitely here for this!

Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #5 (IDW/DC)
Infinite Speech: Am I wrong for wanting this to be a permanent thing?

Rai: The History of the Valiant Universe #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: A perfect jumping on point that teases so much but makes me sad that Gilad speaks of his brother Armstrong in the past tense.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #11 (DC)
NickZ: Dexter Soy killed it on this issue! That entire finale with Bizarro and Akila looked incredible!

Secret Empire #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
A lot of tea was spilled this issue and the kids are going to need therapy after hanging out with Black Widow.
NickZ: I think they just used a random mutant generator to pick the characters for this book and had them behave in any old fashion.

Secret Empire United #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Ultron raining truth bombs on errybody! It’s crazy when HE is the voice of reason!

Supergirl #10 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. The Supergirl/Batgirl team-up is great in concept, but the execution with too much goofy dialogue misses the mark.
NickZ:
Kara’s impulsiveness challenges Barbara’s methodical planning in the worst of possible environments.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #70 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: This was a brutal kick-ass issue even if they weren’t able to save Slash. All of this needs to be fixed soon.

Titans #12 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Omen finally becomes interesting in this one, but I’m not sure I like what is happening with Wally.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #21 (Marvel)
NickZ: I’d totally buy a Koi Boi and Chipmunk Hunk spin-off especially if the Otopals showed up too!

Uncanny Avengers #24 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This was a chaotic masterpiece and I’m down for keeping this creative team on till Johnny enjoys the smell of those Hulk farts.
NickZ:
The group tries to survive the dark dimension while the ladies have a disagreement on tactics.

Wonder Woman #24 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. A pretty intense, and touching, finale to the Godwatch story-arc, with plenty of seeds for future stories.
