Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 03/18/19

Age of X-Man: Apocalypse and the X-Tracts #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: If you ever wanted to see Apocalypse as a hippie, here’s your chance.

Age of X-Man: Marvelous X-Men #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: Revisiting the moment when Magneto found out he isn’t Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s real father gives me hope that they are about to retcon it!

The Amazing Spider-Man #17 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The Hunted arc begins and Kraven has a death wish that might take Spider-Man down with him.
NickZ: If Spencer brought Peter and MJ back together just to kill her off, that’s worse than when he made Cap a nazi.

Avengers No Road Home #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Spectrum’s powers just went to the next level and that crossover with Conan won’t sound so crazy after you finish reading this one.
NickZ: Hulk and Scarlet Witch push back against Nyx and her children but the repercussions are deadly! Also, a wild Conan appears!!!

The Batman Who Laughs: The Grim Knight #1 (DC)
NickZ:
A big twist on Batman’s origin leads to the birth of the Grim Knight!
Infinite Speech: Batman burnout has finally gotten to me. This one just wasn’t for me.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3 (Boom!)
NickZ:
Bellaire, Mora, and Angulo are killing it with this re-imagining of Buffy (no easy task)! I love the idea of the Slayer having her own “Pegasus”! Every Buffy fan needs to be reading this book!

Catwoman #9 (DC)
Infinite Speech
: A new creative team steps in for this issue and makes it a self contained story that makes me want to see more of Selina’s crew!
NickZ: This was a cute little Catwoman tale but what the hell happened to last issue’s cliffhanger ending?

Dead Man Logan #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: You gotta hand it to Mysterio, he was able to outsmart everyone, hero and villain alike.

Flash #66 (DC)
Infinite Speech
: Trickster gets his shot and I was definitely fooled when it was all over!

The Goon #1 (Albatross)
Infinite Speech:
Two decades of The Goon and Eric Powell’s creation hasn’t lost a step! If you’re a fan or just want to get a break from the capes then pick this one up!

Hit-Girl: Hollywood #2 (Image)
Infinite Speech:
The “D**k Taker”?? Wow that was so ridiculous that it was annoying. \

Justice League: Dark #9 (DC)
Infinite Speech:
James Tynion IV has made me a fan of DC’s magic characters all over again!
NickZ: I am loving this series! If you are a fan of any of the magical users in DC, you must read this series. There are seriously huge changes happening and it is fantastic!

Livewire #4 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
Vita Ayala exposed some ugly truths about Livewire but it was all worth it and I can’t wait till the next arc!

The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Saladin Ahmed knocks this one out the park for new readers and those fans who have been down with Kamala since her debut!

Oblivion Song #13 (Image)
NickZ:
After everything coming to a conclusion last issue, we jump 3 years into the future and find major ramifications of those conclusions. I can’t help but feel like everything else was prologue, and we are just getting to the meat and potatoes!

Red Hood: Outlaw #32 (DC)
NickZ:
Jason taking over the Iceberg Lounge has some interesting possibilities but this was without a doubt the worst representation of Batman ever.

Superman #9 (DC)
NickZ
: Bendis, not simply content with just robbing Jon of his innocence, he had to literally torture it out of the poor boy.

Shuri #6 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
A great team-up with Miles and Paul Davidson’s art brings a new vibe to the story.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder in Hell #2 (IDW)
Infinite Speech:
Hell sucks and Shredder actually has my sympathy. Santolouco has put him on a path that continues to make him a better villain and overall character not just defined by the Turtles.

Titans #35 (DC)
NickZ:
While I am enjoying the direction the team has gone since Nightwing left, this Mother Blood story line is dragging on too long.

The Uncanny X-Men Winter’s End #1 (Marvel)
NickZ:
A nice conclusion to both of Sina Grace’s Iceman books but the most satisfying resolution for me was Bobby and Jean addressing the way she outed him when they were time displaced teens.

Transformers #1 (IDW)
Infinite Speech:
This was a bit of a mixed bag for me but it was good enough that I’ll stick around a few more issues to see how things were before the great war between Autobots and Decepticons.

Wolverine The Long Night #3 (Marvel)
NickZ:
This is one of the best Wolverine stories I’ve read in a long time and the kicker is that he isn’t even in it very much.

Wonder Twins #2 (DC)
NickZ:
A truly ridiculous book for some truly ridiculous siblings!

X-Force #4 (Marvel)
NickZ:
I am enjoying this series but I feel the art is too cartoonish for the subject mater.
Infinite Speech: Liking the story so far but the art is throwing me off.

X-23 #10 (Marvel)
NickZ:
For being a killing machine, Gabby is one of the sweetest characters in Marvel.
